YouwillbeassignedtoeitherGroupA,B,orC(ifyouforget,assignmentswillbelistedonBlackboard).Eachdaytherewillbeanassignmenteveryonemustread(listedinthetableontheschedule),andtherewilloftenbeanadditionalreadingforGroupA,GroupB,andGroupC(seeBlackboard),particularlyaswegettolatertopics.Ifadditionalreadingisassigned,wewillmeetinsmallcohortseachcontainingacoupleofreadersfromA,B,andC.Duringthistime,youwillpresenttooneanotherthehighlightsofyourindividualreadings.Quizzesforeachdaywillonlycovermaterialcommontoeveryone,butImaylectureonmaterialfoundinanyofthereadingsandlecturematerialofanytypewillappearonexams.Youmayofcoursereadeverythingifyouhavetime;Iamchoosingthissystemtoavoidoverwhelmingyouwithreading.Itwillalsobehelpfultohaveacopyofthereadingswithyouduringclass(bringyourbook,printouts,oralaptop).

OndayswhenthereadingisdividedupintoA,B,andCgroups,youshouldsubmitatleastoneparagraph(150wordsormore)toBlackboardwritteningrammaticallycorrectEnglishhighlightingandsummarizingkeypointsofthereadingandexplicititemsthatintriguedyouandthatyouwouldliketodiscusswithyourclassmates.Asthismaybethebasisforwhatyouwilldiscusswithyourgroup,Iencourageyoutobringacopyofthisassignmentwithyoutoclass.

ClassParticipationandAttendance:Attendanceandclassparticipationareexpected.Thereisnotastrictpenaltyformissingclass;however,youwillmisscriticalmaterial,activities,quizzes,andparticipationpoints.Whenwritingexams,Idrawheavilyfrommaterialweemphasizedintheclassroom.Moreover,participationmeansmorethanmerelycomingtoclass.Youareexpectedtocomeprepared,havingcompletedtheassignedreading,askquestionsandcontributerelevantandconstructivecommentstothediscussion.Youareencouragedtogetthenotesfromaclassmateshouldyoumissaclassforcollegebusinessorreligiousobservances.
