Biomedical Science Summer Reseach Program About the Program The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in the Biomedical Sciences is IU School of Medicine’s summer research program for future scientists. This 10-week program is designed for undergraduate students who are committed to pursuing a research career and plan to pursue a doctoral training program in the biomedical sciences. Participants engage in research projects in basic science labs and interact with faculty, staff, and trainees at our interdisciplinary centers. Opportunities exist to explore the school’s Research Centers and Institutes, participate in graduate school preparation activities, and present a poster in the Indianapolis campus summer research day. This program is held in Indianapolis, Indiana, a vibrant and diverse urban location with attractions and activities to meet many interests. Deadline:January 15th

Prospective participants can complete the application process by submitting the additional items below with an email subject of: SUREBS to [email protected] by January 15. A letter of reference from a faculty member with whom you have worked in a laboratory setting to give an assessment of your laboratory and research skills. If you have not yet conducted research, please request a letter from a faculty member who instructed you in a science lab or course and is aware of your desire to pursue a doctoral degree. A personal statement (1-2 pages) describing your current academic and research experiences (can be course related research), your interest in participating the summer research program, at least 3 areas of research interest (example: immunology, diabetes, cancer) and your goals for pursuing graduate education. A transcript, either official or unofficial, for review by the selection committee.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in the Biomedical Sciences program is open to undergraduate students who have completed their freshman or sophomore year of course work with a background in biology, chemistry, physics or biomedical engineering. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident of the United States (i.e., possess a valid Permanent Resident Card USCIS Form I-551).
