Map #9 Update Enclosed with your July Bird Tailings is an update for map #9. Access to the Clyde and Clinton claims will require going through a locked gate. This is the Elouise Mine road. Well, it doesn't look good for the Roadrunner’s meeting again for this month. I know everyone, including some of the new members are looking forward to the general meetings, outings and drawings that the Roadrunner Prospectors’ Club promotes. But again I have to say we need to lean on the safe side and not have to be sorry later. I’ve been saying, “Well, maybe next month”. I guess I need to quit saying this and just say, we will have all these events when the Board deems it is safe to do so. I realize the nation is divided on how to react to the COVID-19. I’m not going to get into the difference of opinions about that in this article. Our nation is also dealing with a lot of turmoil over other difficult issues. This is a stressful time for all in this country. I pray that we will survive it and become a stronger country. So be safe and healthy, both physically and mentally. Take care of your friends and families. I have been going out to some of the claims and meeting members that are prospecting and finding gold. Prospecting is one of the best recreations in which to practice social distancing. It’s also one of the best ways for families to have a good time together. On the lighter side, Board member Ray Bostwick has some advice to help get through these stressful times: Always drink upstream from the Herd! Letting the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back! The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over & put it back into your Pocket! Quotes from the Members Throughout the newsletter, you will find random quotes from our members about what the RRPC means to them.

US Forest Service…….. Restrictions

The Prescott National Forest is in Stage 2 fire restriction. Please observe all the regulations about the restriction. These fire restrictions will remain in effect until forest officials determine that conditions have changed sufficiently to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire. Also, be aware that parking in

dry grass can cause a brush fire, so stay on designated roads and parking. The Roadrunner Board of Directors discourages members from prospecting activities in the national forests during stage 2 restrictions. We will try to keep members informed, but it is up to each member to be aware of all the fire stage restrictions. Also, be aware that Tonto National Forest is also in Stage 2. We have one claim in Tonto National For-est, The Golden Nickel.

Les Glover / RRPC President

Stage II fire restrictions prohibit the following:

1. Igniting, building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire.

2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of any flammable material.

3. Welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame.

4. Operating a chainsaw or other equipment operated by an internal combustion engine between the hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

5. Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun, except while engaged in a lawful hunt.

Exemptions to the restrictions include the following:

1. Persons with a written Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of this or-der.

2. Persons using a stove or grill that is solely fueled by liquid petroleum or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fuels.

3. Persons operating generators with an approved spark arresting device in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of the generator

4. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the perfor-

mance of an official duty.

The public can obtain fire information via the following: Prescott National Forest Web Site: www.fs.fed.us/r3/prescott.

The RRPC Buy Back Gold Program

Any member in good standing may add their name to a list of members willing to sell their gold

back to the club at spot value.

We will only call members when the club

needs to purchase gold. The club is only interested in Arizona gold nuggets and the sizes we use. The

club reserves the right to choose which nuggets

they will purchase.

Club members should also bring a minimum of 7 nuggets to sell. The seller will need to make an

appointment with the Vice President for a Wednes-

day during normal office hours to process the sale. Each member will be required to complete the

sales form below.

This is a win-win for the club and members!

Since we have the nation’s best gold raffle (We

think!), we are now offering to our members who cannot come to monthly meetings or club outings, an

opportunity to participate in our raffles. Currently the

raffles are the ¼ oz. Gold Nugget and the Minelab Monster 1000 Metal Detector.

Each member wishing to participate should send

a check or money order into the office (minimum amount $10). Please indicate how many chances for

each raffle you wish to enter at $1 per chance. In-

clude member’s name and member’s number. When your check or money order is received at

the office, a board member or office employee will

write your member number and name on each ticket you purchased, then place them in the correct raffle

bucket. Monies must be received at the office prior to

the date of the raffle drawings. Any raffle monies received at the office after the raffle drawing will be

entered into the next raffle drawing.

Farewell, Jack…. Longtime member Jack Hinton passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020. Jack resided in Chandler, AZ and joined the club in January 2002. He is survived by his wife, Jan. Jack is best known for contributing some of the Rich Hill claims to the club in the early 2000’s. He was a quiet, friendly, and cheer-ful fella, who every so often would come to the outings, and had a wonder-ful welcoming way towards everyone. He will be missed.

What RRPC means to me is a whole world of claims to prospect on!

Since we still have not been able to have any outings on our claims, we continue to bring the claims to you! Our claims are on beautiful land if you take time to look as you travel to your prospecting destination, but how well do you know the area that you may be passing right by? See how many of these pictures you can correctly identify. Name the location and/or what claim it is on or to what claim it will lead you! Enjoy! (Answers on p. 15.)

Revised Dues and Fees Payment Schedule

As you may recall, we surveyed the membership last summer, to see if the membership would be agreeable to changing the annual statement publishing date. The proposal was to move the date from November 1st to September 1st. Folks could make payments beginning in September with the final due date being the same as in the past, December 1st. The purpose of this change was to reduce the finan-cial burden during the Christmas holiday time frame and to spread out the office work-load. The pro-posal was overwhelmingly supported by the membership. So please be aware that you will receive your annual statement about September 1st with the dues and fees payments due date of December 1st. It is also important to note that you can make payments at any time during the year so that you don’t get a large bill at the end of the year. Your badge decals will still be mailed out shortly after December 1st as in the past. (Life members do not receive badge decals) Please contact the office if you have any questions: [email protected] (602) 274-2521

It is always lots of fun and a learning experience at all the RRPC events. There is always great support and teamwork. Good times will return soon!!

Note from our Historian, Bill Hunt: All of the stories (from Bradshaw Mountains.com) you will be read-ing in the next few months have been retold and changed. From what I've been told, there was a group of Frenchmen on French Creek and they were massacred. (Two doesn’t sound like a massacre.) The US Army followed the Indians up what is now known as Bloody Basin and killed them. Bradshaw Lost Treasure Stories In the Bradshaw Mountains there are many stories about lost gold and hidden treasure. I have heard these stories through the years from ranchers, miners, and found them in the archives at Sharlott Hall Museum. In the past, miners, robbers, and regular folks didn't use banks but instead hid their valuables and money. There were many years that towns didn't even have banks available for funds. Gold and silver was a currency commonly used to buy goods and services. Miners were well known for storing up and hiding their finds over a period of time and when they had enough they would gather it up and head into town to cash it all in. The problem was that sometimes they never made it, succumbing to accidents, Indian attacks, and robbery. I will mention a few of these stories to encourage your interest and curiosity. Perhaps you will begin the search for lost treasure and dream of the possibility of becoming very rich yourself! Keep in mind these kinds of stories get embellished over time, but it's still fun to ponder finding lost riches. I have only searched for one (French Creek gold) in my younger years with my father-in-law and wife. No, we never did find the lost treasure only American Indian artifacts, which we left, so it's still out there somewhere. During early Bradshaw history, there is the story of two French miners that worked a creek near Ship Rock for gold and silver. Apache Indian activity was very active in this area as it was near the still undiscov-ered secret hot springs that we now call Castle Hot Springs. These miners happened to find a great amount of gold which they hid in a small cave along or near the creek. As with most, greed (gold fever) got the best of these two souls and they stayed longer than they should have. An Apache war party eventually found them and killed them both. The gold has never been recovered to this day and sits in a small cave somewhere along or near the creek. In remembrance of these two Frenchman the creek was named French Creek. This is the one lost treasure I have spent time looking for, but only found Hohokam ruins instead.

How to Become a Steward of the Land This is one of the easiest ways to win a gold nugget at the monthly meetings!

Let’s start with the basic rules. 1. Be sure to notify the office at [email protected] when you collect trash, destroy fire

rings, or fill in holes. 2. Let’s start with trash collection:

-Fill up a yard bag or the equivalent with trash which can mean anything from cans and bottles to large pieces of metal or furniture.

-Take a picture of your trash, with you or another family member in it, and send it to the office with your name, member number, and the claim on which you found it. This will put you in the drawing.

3. Next let’s look at the endless holes that are on most claims. -Take a picture of the hole before you do anything to reclaim it. -Fill in the hole(s) and take another picture, preferably with you in the picture. -Send it to the office at the above email with your name, member number, and claim.

4. Finally, there are the fire rings. -Take a picture of the fire ring before you do anything to reclaim the area. -Then throw the fire ring rocks at least three feet away so it will not look like there has ever

been a fire ring in that location before. -Take an after picture, with you in it, include your name, the name of the claim, and your

member number and send that to the office at the above email. This is all it takes to get in the monthly drawings! Terry Wilson

Below are two examples of how NOT to leave an area when you are leaving a claim after prospecting. Always allow enough time at the end of your day to fill in the holes and leave the claim better than you found it!

Please Leave No Holes and Fill Those You Find!

Memberships which were purchased before January 1, 1996 are still offered for sale by owners and are listed in the newsletter. These are the ONLY memberships that can be sold and can only be sold ONCE. A transfer fee of $250.00 will be assessed for the sale. The club will run a ‘for sale’ ad in the classified ads section of the newsletter for 3 month (renewable). This is what the ad will look like: For Sale: Life membership #nnnn. $nnn. FMC fee paid for 2020. Buyer pays $250 transfer fee. Please call (first name, last name) at: (nnn) nnn-nnnn. The seller can set the selling price and change it at any time during the ad run. Available: Any day, Can drive 4wd truck, Prescott area. Any claims, limited equipment. Eager to learn and meet new people. I am able to drive and help in any way I can. Would be great to find some mentors. What I lack in experience I make up with a good attitude.

One way to find help or advice on prospecting is to call a Buddy! If they don’t know the answer, they can put you in contact with someone who can! We may not be able to meet or have a dig right now, but learning all you can about prospecting doesn't end just because of cancelations!
