Congratulations to the new club champions for 2013. A special nod of the cap goes to club champion Doug Peterson, while playing with a great deal of pain, managed to blow the fi eld away. A repeat performance by JD Culbertson to remain as senior champ scored his second consecutive title. The clubs most improved golfer Randy Burtch garnered him the clubs net co-championship with Tony Giles and his second major title this year. Well done.

The tournament year is starting to wind down and the TOC fi eld is shaping up to a great event. You still have time to put your name on the invitation list so sign up for the remaining tournaments and join the last big tournament of the year.

Speaking of things winding down, the boards yearly term is just about over and new elections will be held in November. Every position on the board can be changed by the election process. I have been told that in the old days of the Imperial Men's club a president never lasted more than one term. Each board member can serve 3 years max in any one position before they have to step down. So, take advantage of the democratic process and run for offi ce or vote and keep the process running.

Lastly, the Laughlin trip seems to be shaping up everyday and expectations of a good time are running high. There is still time to get your entry in enjoy the festivities. And, as a special incentive we will have Creedence Clearwater playing for your pleasure Saturday night

I would like to congratulate the Club Champions; it‛s honor to be named Club Champ and represent LARV in the champions tourney for clubs. We have now added a point par tourney on Saturday to replace our Cerbat Cliffs outing; there will be no luncheon on this tourney day; as it was not planned until the last minute. I'm excited we are having another tourney this month in Laughlin; managed by Doug. I'm doing my best to make this golf outing; I'm hoping all the board is going to make it; should be a special event. Knowing Doug; he usually has lots of golfers and the event is always fun. Good luck to everyone playing Saturday and see you on the course.

I would like to take the time to share some good news with all of my fellow club members. I have passed the Q-School Pre-Qualifi cation Stage at PGA West - Greg Norman Course. My total score for the 3 competitive rounds was on the cut line at 220, or 4 over par. If you would like a detailed breakdown of my scores by round or by hole, please visit http://www.pgatour.com/qschool and select the appropriate course and then hit the results tab. My next stage will be at the Lakes at Castle Hills in Lewisville, Texas. I will be leaving for that stage on October 18th and the 1st of 4 competitive rounds starts on October 23rd. I just want everyone to know that I really appreciate all the support that I have received. Hearing those good thoughts and prayers is a big confi dence booster and I am very grateful to be a part of this club. I would also like to thank the golf course for their support in my endeavors. They have treated me very well and I really enjoy being at Royal Vista Golf Club. With that said, congratulations to our club champions, Doug Peterson, Tony Giles, JD Culbertson, Kevin Smola, and Emery Frost. I wish everyone the best for the remainder of the season and I will keep you all updated.

Hopefully by now you are all making plans and reservations for our Laughlin trip. It is shaping up to be a fun time with great participation.

I am taking a break from publishing this month but thought you might enjoy this title ditty. Looking forward to having much to say next month after Laughlin. See you there!

Lady and Gentlemen: I have failed to write you for several months. I‛m out due to an injury so had nothing of real purpose to take your time. Well I‛m back or close to it. Can still swing a club but not to steady on my feet.

I do have something this month. Here is the problem. We have a member who has missed several months due to an injury. He asked me if there was any way to be able to adjust his index temporarily so he can compete in tournaments with at least a small chance to cash. I called SCGA and was given this advice. If we are a large club and I didn't know his game then I should ask for three cards and calculate a new index. If I was privy to his game then I should report to the Handicap Comm. to discuss how many strokes I can temporarily assign. The range usually runs form 5 to 8 strokes. The commumite graciously gave me (strike that) the golfer 5 strokes on a temporary basis and adjust down as his play improve. This may and hopefully occur on a rare basis. But with age of our club I believe this may become more and more common. Many of us have body parts that God didn't include as standard issue. Also there are those who have beaten some big time illnesses. I call upon Dennis Walker for one tournament a survivors fl ight. It would be simple. If you have been one of the victors we should, for one tournament, play up as far as possible. This I believe that as the years go by,this fl ight will grow to overwhelming numbers

From the Treasurer---Numbers, you want numbers…!!! No problem, I‛ll give you numbers. 130, 1.4, 10,000,000, 10-6, 14 1⁄2-13 1⁄2, 104, 6, and fi nally, 70/225. Got those? Confused? Answers to follow. $130, the cost of the 2013 renewal for the LARV Men‛s Club and SCGA, due by Nov.1. $1.4mil, the winners share for the Tour Championship garnered by Brandt Snedeker of blond hair and visor fame. $10,000,000, his bonus for winning the FedEx Cup with the most points won over the course of the year. Neither he nor last years winner, Bill Haas were favored or even part of normal conversations about who would win the FedEx Cup before they won it. It just goes to show you, in golf, as in life, anything can happen if you can hang in there long enough. As in…10-6, the Ryder Cup score going into the last day of singles matches (generally an American strength), U.S. over Europe. 14 1/2-13 1/2, the fi nal tally at the end of the day, Europeans stunning the Americans on their own soil and keeping the Cup for another 4 years. Sometimes when you play well, you lose anyway, because the other guy just played better…much the case for the U.S. team this year. Ian Poulter, Justin Rose, Rory McElroy, Martin Kaymer, et al made some amazing, pressure packed shots in crunch time while the Americans barely missed some of their own…all golf at it‛s watch-able best. Player or voyeur, it was good for golf…if not particularly good for the American team. 104, the temperature outside as I write this. 6, the number of men‛s club tournaments left for 2012. We‛ve got money in the coffers and gift cards at the ready…enter, play well, and collect with not quite the pressure of the Ryder Cup on your shoulders. As mentioned, fi nally, $70/$225, the amount of the check you need to send me if you are playing in our annual Laughlin dual in the desert on Oct. 26th and 27th. $70, if you are staying at the Edgewater as part of the LARV golf package, or $225 if you have other room arrangements (more details in the attached fl ier). Since I am not privy to your choices, the only way I know if you are playing is when I get your check for one of the above amounts. Oct. 11th we have to give the courses our numbers. You‛ll hit it, fi nd it, and hit it again a little closer to the casinos this year as we‛re playing Los Lagos and El Rio golf courses on the other side of the river. We‛ll have the drawing for teams at the Edgewater on Thurs. night and payouts Saturday night in the same place…TBD shortly. We‛re close to our 60 confi rmed players so get your entry and accommodations if you haven‛t done so already. It should be a lot of fun at different venues…the Thurs. “skins game” will be at Laughlin Ranch starting at 1:00...with plenty of opportunities to win your fortune at the tables when you‛re not on the course. Hope to see you there…and the numbers make sense.
