Family
A Birth is another life in the Universe.
Your Partner
You
Your Doctor or Midwife
As with most areas of your life,
childbirth requires Teamwork.
GOAL
BETTER BIRTH
Learn- to observe listen
respond to each other.
Learn and develop your own roles.
Complement each other as member of a team.
Ask questions.
Oblige happily.
Complement each other-
As members of a team, you and your partner should strive to complement each other and praise each other. Reiterate to each other the importance of learning how to work as a team and your appreciation for each other doing so.
Develop Your Own Roles-To be a successful team, you must learn and develop your own roles. The
mother-to-be has a very clear role, to birth. The father to be (or other partner) has the role and responsibility of supporting the mother and
encouraging her throughout the process. The birth professional, clearly, has the role of monitoring the situation and stepping in with necessary help
and interventions.
By learning-Observe, listen and respond to each other, you can create some powerful teamwork. Communication, understanding and learning the proper skills needed are other properties of a successful birthing team. Frustration, irritability and lack of communication are very dangerous qualities in a team member – they hinder the effectiveness of the team.
Ask questions-
In order to facilitate better communication, try asking questions.
Oblige happily-
This is especially useful for the father to be, when he is unsure of how to help the mother, or when she starts to become irritable. Ask what she needs, and oblige happily. When in doubt, try to find out!
