7th Grade Orientation - Jr. High Preview Night You're invited to Neumann High School Monday, August 9, 2021, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

Dear Bishop Neumann Family, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” – Somebody famous Where has the summer gone?!? I hope you have been having fun, because it seems like time has sure been flying by these last few weeks! Last summer we had no idea what the school year would look like, how long we would be in school, and if we would make it to the end. Thankfully, this summer we are able to move ahead with confidence that this school year will look a little more like “normal”. But we also have a few changes in personnel and projects that we are knocking out this summer that has me excited to see what God has planned for this school year. “In such a time God is preparing me, for such a time as is to come.” – Dr. Olga Bom On the facilities side we have: scrubbed the walls, power-washed the chairs, painted a few rooms, cleaned the car-pets, waxed the floors, received our new books, painted the lines, and re-finished the gym floor. And that’s just the list I can think of off the top of my head. We are also refurbishing the computer lab with new equipment and new computers. Thank you to the supporters at GALA that made that possible. On the personnel front, we are excited to welcome new students and parents, new teachers and their families, new priests and religious – you can read their biographies in the pages following. We are grateful beyond measure to the time and talent that their predecessors gave to Bishop Neumann – George Toline, Janiece Sizemore, Katie Arp, Richard Evans, James O’Neil, and Kathrine Lantis. May they be blessed in their next endeavors! On the activity side of things, there have been so many camps, meetings, and groups of people in and out, that it is almost laughable for us to say that the school is “closed for the summer.” But these activities, you can tell, are not what the school is made for. It is almost as if the building itself is getting ready for something else as we enter into the first week of August, there is a silence; an anticipated waiting for the busy-ness that is to come. And the Admin Team and I have been getting ready, as well. Ready to welcome students and teachers back to the classrooms. Ready to welcome parents and families into the halls and buildings. approved by school administration.

Additional guidelines Earrings are inappropriate for school wear for boys and may not be worn to school or school-related activities.

Boys are to be clean shaven. Sideburns are not to go below the earlobe. Boys will be asked to shave at school.

Boys’ hair styles will consist of a short or regular tapered neckline off the collar and tapered above and off the ears. No pony tails, pig

Students who do not choose to wear red/gold must follow the regular school dress code. Consequence

Any student violating the Bishop Neumann dress code will be issued a dress code citation which will not apply toward the school disciplinary process. A student may receive multiple citations for the same infraction over the course of the same school day. Dress code citations will be served from 7:25AM – 7:55AM. Students will have two days to serve the citation.

Last school year, there was a focus on COVID-19 protocols that provided safety to students and teachers and permitted the school to stay open. This focus allowed some other areas of our handbook to have less attention. Our dress code was one of these areas where compliance and enforcement of our expectations had relaxed Please read through the dress code below to ensure uniforms, haircuts/colors, etc. meet the expectations stated in our handbook.

CAFETERIA ANNOUNCEMENTS The USDA has announced all students can receive free lunch and breakfast for the 2021-2022 school year. Parents still need to fill out the Federal Lunch Application for free or reduced meals. It is extremely important Parents fill this application out and return it to the school, we encourage all families to fill it out and turn it in. A copy of the Federal Free and Reduce Meal application will be mailed next week. It will also be availabe at: https://bishopneumann.com/2020-2021-lunch-information/.

There will be a few changes to the cafeteria this next school year. We will be providing breakfast at St. Johns and Bishop Neumann. The breakfast will meet the National School Breakfast Program’s (NSBP) meal pattern requirement and will be free for the 2021-2022 school year. The cafeteria will continue to have smart snacks available for Bishop Neumann Students before school, along with breakfast. The snack item prices will remain comparable to last spring, and will be charged to the students lunch account. There will be a la cart items available to Bishop Neumann Students in the lunch line for an extra charge, i.e.; yogurt, uncrustable sandwich, side salad. These items are not part of the meal and will have a fee of $.75 per item if the student chooses to take them. An alternate entrée item will also be available if a Bishop Neumann student would choose not to have the main dish item from the menu. This entrée item will be the same each day (a sub sandwich) which will meet the NSLP meal pattern and can be substituted for the main dish and grain for the day. The student will get the rest of the planned menu. Also students in 5th and 6th grade at St. Johns and St. Wenceslaus will be allowed to get a second entrée. Second Entrée’s (Doubles) are $1.50. We recommend all parents/guardians have a conversation with your students about whether or not you want the students to purchase snacks, extra milks, a la cart items, and doubles as these items are extra costs and will be charged to the student’s account. With all of these changes we encourage families to set up a lunch account at www.myschoolbucks.com. We ask that lunch accounts be kept current as there can be charges with snacks and doubles purchases, and the negative lunch policy will be in effect, which can be found in the Student Handbook or on the website www.bishopneumann.com. Lunch money can be brought to the front office. The Kitchen staff is looking forward to the new school year. We hope the changes will

encourage more students to eat with us. If you have any questions or concerns please call the school (402-443-4151) and ask to speak to Carolyn, or any questions can be sent via email to [email protected].
