◇ Letter Size
◇Margin and Margin LocationThe interval between body size and letter size.When characters are displayed consecutively, it might be difficult to read caused by each characters contact with the other.In order to prevent it, it is necessary to have space at the “line” and the “column” without character.The space is made by the interval between body size and letter size.The Margin location, horizontal (left or right) and vertical (above or below), is specified by bitmap font.

The dot numbers for thickness of dot strokes (horizontal line, vertical line, dot, etc.)A character with many dot strokes may be expressed with less dot numbers than those of the line width defined by each bitmap font.

Ricoh Bitmap Font Features
Ricoh Gothic Typeface Specially Designed for Text Legible.- the space between lines affects how easy it is to read.
It is easier to read when the space between lines is wide. However, the data volume in one shot may be toosmall when it is too wide.Ricoh’s Gothic typeface is made with well balance by creating small space in the above.
- When reading a long text, it is ideal to make all characters the same size in order to make it readable without tired.But, some characters may look bigger and the other smaller depending on the dot stroke composition. So, sizes in appearance look same by adjusting each character physical size.
Ricoh Bitmap Font Loaded on MS Mincho and MS Gothic.
Ricoh Bitmap Font has been adopted since Windows® 3.1 OS.Small character size fonts frequently used are actually displayed by loaded bitmap fonts.(That is why they are easy-to-read.)
Over 20 years, many people have looked at bitmap fonts without knowing it. Our bitmap fonts are used widely in Japan.

[Example]:Sharing of dot and strokes
(1) Dot strokes are omitted from the point of view of the balance. No character clogging happens.(The image is shown below).
(2) Character size in appearance keeps same with adjusting the balance as a whole.For instance, complicated characters look smaller, while fewer dot stroke characters look bigger.Also when a surrounded area is large, the character looks larger.

“磯” and “臼” are both Gothic typeface with body size 16x16 (letter size15x15).They appear the same size, but the actual domains are quite different as shown below.

[Example]At small size of similar characters, the design difference becomes smaller (for example, zero as thenumber and O as alphabet).Ricoh make the shape of zero horizontally longer, and the shape of alphabet O rounder. Or it is an alternative solution to add slush to the zero to discriminate.
