TRANSCRIPT
Bituminous Bits ~ Journal of the Alabama Forge Council May/June 2016 issue
1
Eddie Rainey of Georgia will show how to stretch fireplace screen, blow up a sheet metal fish to make a hollow form art piece, show tools and processes involved in making the Gothic vise he taught at the 2015 AFC workshop and he will show forging processes for
titanium.
Eddie is a working farrier as well as an artist who sells his work at art shows and to designers. His unique perspective coming from
both worlds will be quite enlightening.
As current ABANA President Eddie has done a great job of implementing new ways of bringing us all together again. At some
point in the conference he will enlighten us about ABANA’s forward progress and plans for the near future.

SUNDAY ONLY DEMONSTRATION Steve Williamson will forge a Hum-Mule.
This mythical creature only found in Columbia, TN will captivate you!
As always….. Steve will educate and entertain with skill, Southern charm and a wicked sense of humor.
Phil Cox of Missouri will make adjustments to our AFC 25lb Little Giant demonstration hammer. His adjustments make these hammers run efficiently, he will show the process of how to add
a brake to a 25lb Little Giant, and pour a babbitt for the hammer.
We will have another 25lb Little Giant on hand which Phill will take apart and discuss trouble shooting common problems,
discuss fixes, and show numerous tools and their uses with these hammers.
Phil is the President of BAM (Blacksmith Assoc. of Missouri).
He taught welding in a prison for many years so you know he is not only patient but tough. Anything with a motor interests him and
he has years of experience fixing the smallest to the largest. Even race cars! Phil collects and works on antique sewing
machines as well as other various things with moving parts.

The Auction Your donated items for the auction are very much appreciated. The auction proceeds are where the AFC generates
its income to offer blacksmithing scholarships and to host the free workshops each year. The conference fees pay
for putting on the conference but the auction is how we continue to provide the activities that further the art and
craft of blacksmithing. Our auctioneer this year is Anthony Goodrum. This is a charity auction, bid generously.
If you cannot attend we welcome your donations for IITH and the auction
Please send them to:
