Lastly, we have a lovely new

It’s lovely to see all our stu-

settled into their new clas-
ses and routines. We would

staff members to you:

Welcome Back!
middle of the week, but
from the stories I have
heard from the children it
sounds like everyone en-
joyed the National Day cel-
ebrations!
We are back from our sum-
mer holidays and in full
swing for another great
year at Learn Different. The
children are settling in quite
smoothly in their new class
(Reception 2), and I must
say so are their teachers!
The first week back to
school we were busy with
review work and catching
up with friends.
This past week has been a
rather funny week due to
the 2-day holiday in the

Hep hep, hurray! We just had
two successful weeks back in
school! I am impressed that our
students still remember our
classroom routines, rules and
schedule. We kicked off the new
school year with an oral presen-
tation about our holidays and
how we spent our school break.
Last week, we joined ‘Max’ in
his adventure as we read the
book Where the Wild Things
Are. It was a good way to devel-
op and reinforce the students’
reading comprehension skills.
Everybody was so intrigued at
how Max became the King of
the Wild Things. We also made
our own Max and Wild Things
costumes and had our own wild
rumpus!
This week was all about cele-
brating Singapore’s 46th birth-
day and the Fashion Parade! We
celebrated Singapore’s birthday
by going on a treasure hunt
around the school. We searched
in the library, cooking studio,
performance studio and art
room for the crescent moon and
five stars, which are part of the
Singapore flag. We had loads of
fun! We found all the things we
needed to make the Singapore
flag by practicing teamwork!
And of course, the highlight of
our week was the Fashion Pa-
rade! Everybody—students and
teachers—came to school as a
different character. Some wore
their host country costume,
others wore their home country

outfits, and some were in their
favourite character costumes
such as Spiderman and Super-
man.
The school halls were filled with
life and colour as everybody
came together to strut their stuff
on the runway. By adding their
own style, winking and exchang-
ing high-fives, the Year One stu-
dents conquered the runway. I
must say, it was an amazing sight
to see! Our students summoned
their courage and did the catwalk
like professional models. This

to the new IPC unit, Fashion
Exploration. Now, we are all
eager to explore the world of
fashion!
The excitement about doing fun things has been in the air since last week. We gave a kick-start to our first week of school with a puppet show about ourselves so that we can get to know each other better. The children inter-viewed their best friends and made some special notes for them. They read “The Rain-bow Fish” to better under-stand the real meaning of friendship and created their own rainbow fish using paper collage. We celebrated a friendship week to warmly welcome our new friend, Schneider Lim.

RECEPTION TWO , MS. KARINA’S CLASS
The celebration in the class
continued when the children
sang “A Song for Singapore”
to celebrate National Day.
They watched a documentary
film about Singapore in the
past and how it has changed
into the present Singapore.
We talked about the flag and
the meaning of it and its fea-
tures like the crescent moon
and the five stars. After mov-
ie time, we made Singapore
flag from paper collage. We
helped save the environment

by recycling old magazines. We
browsed through the pages
and used the ones with many
red colours in them.
The Fashion Parade for the
Entry Point this Friday was a
blast. The children confidently
walked on the runway, posed
for the audience, introduced
themselves and talked about
their costumes. They deserve a
The students were a little hesi-tant the first week of school, getting used to their new classmates and routines. Some wanted to visit their old teachers, some needed some extra time here or there, but this short week has been fan-tastic. We have set-up classroom rules and all the students have signed the “Classroom Rules Agreement”. It was also a week of making each other feel welcome, and the class did so, by sharing more about themselves. They revealed that they enjoy play-ing with clay and we used this when we worked on learning math this week.
Also of note, Anoushka com-plete her good behaviour chart in just two weeks! Way to go, Anouk! We all play a part in contrib-uting something in class: Tom leads us during our morning songs, Anouk amuses us with her fascinating “show and tells” each morning, Lauren

portantly, for settling in the

the great work!
and Adam are reliable teach-er’s helpers, and Sam always shows us his dancing and singing talent during move-ment sessions. Our learning journey together has just begun, and there will be many more things we will discover together this year. Majulah! (Onward)
We celebrated National Day in class by cutting-out and col-ouring a Singapore flag. We also started focusing more on academics and reviewed from last year. Most of them can read and spell C-V-C words and count backwards from 20 to 1.
The marvellous week ended as we wore our colourful national costume and were able to show our catchy runway looks and cool poses in our ‘Fashion Show parade’.
Every child deserves the right to be taught in the way he or she learns best!
