Abstract Historical and Cultural context: Abstract art is an art movement that emerged around

1910 and whose purpose is to dispense with all the figurative elements in order to concentrate on the expressive forms and colors unrelated to visual reality. We can consider that its creator was Vasily Kandinsky (1866-1944).

Abstract painting: In abstract painting, the art piece becomes an autonomous reality, without connection to nature and, therefore, no longer represents men, landscapes, houses, flowers, color schemes but simply trying to express the inner need. One of the main features of abstract painting is the use of a language without shape and color freedom.

Abstract What is known as abstract art was born into the

paint, but extends to all arts. Vasily Kandinsky was who wrote the manifesto that

today is considered the main treaty of abstract art, which outlined the rules, the features and the intentionality of it: On the Spiritual in Art. He argues in the letter that this new type of paint, as opposed to figurative, born of the changing needs of the times, sociological and philosophical changes and sensory response to be transmitted artistic representations.

Reasons why I choose it: I did choose this Vanguard because I really like to express just doing what I like to do. Not to paint something because I have to paint it, I prefer the free expressions, and in this case the abstract art is the perfect.

Information of Artist and piece chosen.

Why I chose this artist: I did chose this artist because he have very good art pieces, and he have a technique that I like very much. He use very much good colors, and forms with curves, lines, and he uses a good contrast.

Why is an important reference of Europe art history/ Why is a relevant example of the vanguard chosen: He is a perfectionist when it comes to creating his own art. His style of art is very bright, abstract, colorful, and calculating. They involve shapes, shadows, lights, contrast, and balance.

Why the artist´s work is related to the vanguard chosen: This artist is related to the vanguard chosen because he is considered the first abstract artist in Colombia. For Ospina, figuration and abstraction were not two antagonistic languages , on the contrary, claimed that his natural environment was something abstract, and to find out we had to approach and focus on form.

Reflection text of creative process

Failures: In the 3rd quarter I didn’t understand the class theme. Sometimes I was talking and doing things that I wasn’t supposed to do. I did relax in art class and that had bad consequences.

What to improve: My attention in class, the concentration and understanding of the activities. I will chose the best options for my works, and I will improve the quality of the art works.

Goals for the 4th quarter: My goals are to pass Art with very good grades and to understand the activities and things to do in class. I will put attention to all the explanations of the teacher. Also I will try to be one of the best students in art.
