What You Will Experience

Camp BizSmart is pleased and excited to partner with the prestigious, 124 year old Baylor School in beautiful Chattanooga, Tennessee for a very unique Residential 10-day entrepreneurship experience full of fun and learning. Participants will focus on a team-based, hands-on innovation case product design and a businessplan challenge specifically designed by the CEOs and founders ofsome of the hottest start-ups in Silicon Valley, Chattanooga and theSoutheast. Students will defend their solutions to a panel of topentrepreneurs and business leaders. The best team out of all CampBizSmart locations will be recognized at an annual angel capitalexpo sponsored by the Keiretsu Forum at Microsoft Silicon Valley.

On days 1–9 teams will create a concept design and write a business plan. Day 10, teams compete for 1st place in front of a panel of investors and entrepreneurs and participate in a celebration showcasing student team designs, giving and the presentation of graduation certificates. Students will work with their teams after hours to refine their solution, further build collaboration skills, and practice their presentation. Prior to arriving, students can sign up for outdoor adventure weekend activities such as rock climbing, canoeing and white water rafting. The Tennessee Aquarium is invited to participate in an innovative clean water business case. Finally, the top student will receive a full tuition scholarship to the first-of-its-kind BizSmart Global Silicon Valley Business Accelerator.

Week 2 (Baylor School) Writing an efficient business plan and making a compelling presentation. Competition week, and celebration of success.

Day 6 Creating a sales strategy and how to close the deal. How to tell your story with passion and share your vision for changing the world.

Skills: • Negotiation • Selling strategies • Sales promotion • Distribution and inventory • Risk analysis

Day 7 Writing an effective business plan. Practicing your presentation with the “WOW” factor. Contingency planning for what could do wrong. Leading your team to the finish. Adding zest to your pitch.

Skills: • Communication • Composure • Problem solving • Critical thinking • Presentation skills

Day 8-9 Present your business plan to real entrepreneurs and venture investors, share your passion and receive feedback from experienced presenters and speakers.

Skills: • Public speaking • Persuasion • Innovative thinking • Making contact with your audience • Teamwork

Day 10 A “Contest of Ideas”. Taking your idea to market. Listening to the customer. Asking real investors to “Show me the money”. How to win and lose with grace. The benefit of persistence to achieve goals. Graduation, celebration, recognition of the winning team and the “ZOG Award”. ZOG stands for: Zest – Optimism – Grit; essential qualities that researchers believe are indicators of future success.

Week 1 (Baylor School) Team Building, understanding market opportunities, creative problem solving, concept analysis & product design, finance and marketing strategies.

Day 1 Are you an entrepreneur and do you have “Grit”? Why passion matters. Meet Silicon Valley founders and CEOs. Be challenged with a real world business design case. Learn team roles: CEO, CFO, CIO, CTO, CSO and CMO. Get an evaluation of your personal learning style.

Skills: • Leadership • Teamwork • Collaboration • Creative thinking • Problem solving

Day 2 Practice product design. Make an original concept. What sells and why? How will it stand out from the rest?

Skills: • Design thinking • Conducting focus groups • Listening • Team building • Brainstorming • Story Boarding

Day 3 Is it an iPhone yet? Taking a cool idea from concept to design. Let’s get creative! Why do great products and inventions matter?

Skills: • Product design • Cost analysis • “FAB” feature, advantage, benefit analysis • Understanding customer requirements • Fast cycle prototyping

Day 4 Design day. Concept visualization, bring products to life. Market research and competitive analysis. Learn how to improve your design concept based on value-added research.

Skills: • Concept sketching • Conflict resolution • Scheduling • Goal setting • Project management Day 5 Will your idea make money? Will someone buy it? Is it what the customer wants? Build your financial IQ. Why ethics and “doing the right thing” are critical to long term success.

Skills: • Break-even analysis • Profit and loss statements • Creating marketing • Competitive analysis • Ethics: doing the right thing

Camp BizSmart Schedule Overview

Please note: Attendance is mandatory for all 10 days. This is a team-based competition, and everyone plays a vital role. Teams with ab-sent members would find it extremely difficult to succeed.

Dates & Locations: June 11-24, 2017, 8:30am-4:30pm, Baylor School, Chattanooga, TN

Friday, June 23, 2017, 8:30am-11:30am, The Edney Innovation Center (Biz Plan Competition. 1:30pm-4:00pm, Baylor School (Graduation). Residential students will be transported to the Biz Plan Competition and back to Baylor.

Baylor Housing Check-in Check in at Baylor Housing is between 3:00pm-5:00pm on Sunday, June 11. Check out is by 10:00am and Check-out Times: on Saturday, June 24. BizSmart Global staff will greet your students at check in and will be with them

again at departure time.

Nearest Airport: The nearest airport to Baylor School is Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA), also known as Lovell Field.

Outside Activities: There will be activities for the residential students to enjoy during the evening and weekend hours when they are not working in teams on their project. Teams work together using their laptops or smart devices throughout the camp session and in the evening. Information regarding any additional planned

activities or excursions, will be provided to registered participants.

Daily Dress: Business casual, modest, neat clothing with no advertising or slogans and a light jacket/sweater for all students due to air conditioning. Good jeans or casual slacks and golf type shirts for guys recommended. No tank tops or shorts; casual slacks and tops for the girls recommended, NO short shorts, miniskirts or tank tops. Shoes are required for safety, NO FLIP FLOPS. Athletic shoes are good. All clothing should be comfortable for outdoor breaks and activities.

Competition/Grad Day: Biz Plan Competition & Graduation, Business Dress is Required.

Boys: slacks & long sleeve shirts, jackets optional. Comfortable non-athletic shoes and a belt are recommended. Girls: modest skirts, dresses or pants with tops for girls, jacket/sweater optional but we are in air conditioning so dress accordingly. Shoes: comfortable nice flats are a good choice. No tight or short outfits are appropriate. Important Biz Meeting Attire. The attention should be on your teams’ presentation not on any one person’s attire. Sandals or Flip Flops are not appropriate. Photos are taken.

Meals: Residential Students & Staff will have Baylor Dining Hall food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a wide variety of foods and dietary items from which your student can choose. If your student has a special dietary need or serious food allergy please let us know, so we can inform the Dining Hall staff.

Required Forms: Upon Registration, you will be provided access to all forms necessary to participate in the program.

Laptop / iPad: Technology devices are encouraged and used for camp business projects – anything that is brought to camp is the responsibility of student and should be labeled. There will be wireless connections in the dorm rooms and program rooms. Because we value interpersonal communication and team building, if smart technology devices are not needed, we ask that the student close them and put them away until they are needed.

Personal Items: Baylor School Housing provides bed linens and one set of towels per students. Just as if they were a

college student staying in a dorm, your student should bring all their own personal hygiene items of soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc. And, a small personal flashlight comes in handy should the students take an evening walk on campus.

Clothing: Please pack enough clothes for the session, including a good business attire outfit for the competition and graduation, daily clothes for the working sessions and evening and weekend time clothes to relax in. Athletic shoes and comfortable business casual clothing are recommended for daily work sessions.
