I appreciate the effort and commitment of all the staff who are involved in making TASTE a success.

Whilst we are still waiting for Star Ratings, I am pleased to advise that BIZLINK is tracking very well against National and Local counterparts. We look forward to reporting on the first release of Disability Employment Services Star Ratings.

National Reconciliation Week27 May to 3 June

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey — the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. www.reconciliation.org.au/national-reconciliation

In the News

A LOCAL business has found a perfect answer to hiring staff by using disability employment service Bizlink.

Impeccable Hand Car Wash & Detailing is owned by Gurmukh Sandhu and managed by brother-in-law Gurdit Singh since its inception two years ago.

The business has employed eight Bizlink clients, three of which are still employed there today. Employees Brad Monger and Kevin Gore both appreciated the opportunity and valued their employer.

“I have only been here a week,” Brad said. “It’s great to get active, get self-esteem and, of course, money.”

For Kevin it is his first job. “It’s been very good, excellent,” he said. “I have been here about a year and Bizlink helped to provide the job.”

Hailing from Northern India (Punjab), Mr Sandhu said it was important to foster and welcome diversity in

employment.

“Being an immigrant myself, it’s good to employ local people who are from here,” he said.

“It feels good; you feel part of the community and it helps me to learn the culture. It helps me a lot.

“It’s a nice experience and you realise everyone is the same. And they get to know us better.

“It’s easy to work with the guys, as they like to work here and like me.

“If someone comes to you and you are helping them move on with their life, then I am more than happy to do that.”https://www.communitynews.com.au/weekend-courier/news/rockingham-car-wash-champions-diversity-through-employment/

A PARTNERSHIP between Melville Glades Golf Club and disability employment service Bizlink has seen two clients flourish in the kitchen.

Alexander Smith and Tyson Camisa both joined the golf club as cooks last year and a third Bizlink client is in the process of joining too.

Golf club food and beverage manager Peter-John Booth said staffing was on the minds of all businesses.

“We were able to meet with Bizlink and we liked what they had to say, so we brought in Tyson and then Alexander and they are doing well,” he said.

Mr Camisa said he was enjoying the role and hoped to continue in the industry.

“We have to prep for a number of functions, including for 100 plus people during the ladies days on Tuesday and Thursdays,” he said.

“There’s also Rotary events as well and we make mains and desserts for them.

“My dream is to become a four-star chef and go on cruises.”

Bizlink marketing manager Steve Mangan said they were always looking for forward-thinking and progressive businesses to link up with.

“We have more than 1000 jobseekers with mental health presenting as an issue for about 80 per cent of them,” he said.

“We network with employers around WA to find opportunities for these workers.

“When people see what businesses like Melville Glades are doing they are more willing to pick up the phone and talk with us.”https://www.communitynews.com.au/melville-times/news/leeming-melville-glades-golf-club-links-with-disability-employment-service/
