Alabama State was among the big winners
Saturday as the Hornets knocked BCSP No. 1
Tennessee State from the top spot and the un-
beaten ranks, 27-21.
ASU (1-1), up to No. 6 in the BCSP nationalranking, begins its SWAC East Division schedule
Saturday as it hosts Mississippi Valley State (1-
1) in a 5 p.m. start.
TSU (1-1), down to 22nd in the FCS Coaches
Poll, dropped to eighth in the BCSP ranking af-
ter the loss and looks to get back on track fac-
ing BCSP No. 7 Jackson State (2-0) in the 25th
Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis at 6 p.m.
After an idle week, Bethune-Cookman (1-
0), up to 13th in the FCS Coaches Poll, moves
into the BCSP top spot as it heads into its game
at home Saturday (4 p.m.) vs. Grambling State
(0-2) and new coach Broderick Fobbs.
Winston-Salem State (1-0) avenged its sea-
son opening loss to UNC-Pembroke last season
by humbling the nationally-ranked Braves 38-7 in
Winston-Salem Saturday. Revenge may be on the
Rams' mind again this week as they travel to Pow-
der Springs, Ga. (4 p.m.) to take on Valdosta State
(1-0). WSSU lost to Valdosta State in the 2012
NCAA Div. II national championship game (35-
7). WSSU is No. 2 in the BCSP ranking and 12th
in the Div. II Coaches Poll. Valdosta State, com-
ing off a 38-10 win over Albany State, is 23rd.
BCSP No. 3 South Carolina State (1-1)
took a 73-7 shellacking from Clemson last week.
This week the Bulldogs stay in state (6 p.m.) trav-
elling to Conway, S. C. for a shot at FCS No. 5
Coastal Carolina (2-0).
BCSP No. 4 North Carolina A&T (1-
1) came within a point (31-30) of knocking off
Coastal Carolina last week and travels to nearby
Elon (0-1) Saturday (6 p.m.).
BCSP No. 5 Alcorn State (1-1), coming off
a close loss to FBS Southern Mississippi (26-20),
hosts Louisiana College (4 p.m.). Texas South-
ern (2-0) is at No. 9 in the BCSP ranking and trav-
els to Nassau in the Bahamas to take on Central
State (1-0) in the frst HBCUX Football Classic.Southern (1-1) is 10th in the BCSP ranking
and is hosting nemesis Northwestern State (0-2)
Saturday at 6 p.m.
Elsewhere in the SWAC, Alabama-Birming-
ham (1-1) hosts (2:30 p.m.) Alabama A&M (1-1)
and McNeese State hosts (6 p.m.) Prairie View
A&M (0-1).
In other MEAC games to watch, Hampton
(0-2) has its third tough game as it goes on the
road to take on FCS No. 21 Richmond (1-1). Nor-
folk State (0-2) is also on the road at FCS No.
19 William & Mary (7 p.m.). North Carolina
Central (1-1) and new coach Jerry Mack host
(5 p.m.) Charlotte (2-0). Howard (0-2) will host
Morehouse (1-0) in the AT&T Nations Fo otball
Classic at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.
(3:30 p.m.) while Morgan State (0-2) hosts Bow-
ie State (0-1) in a MEAC/CIAA tussle at 1 p.m.

as head football coach at Saint Au-
gustines University effective Sep-
tember 8, 2014. Costa was in his 13th season
as head coach with a 39-63 record.
"We appreciate what Coach
Costa has done for the team and
Saint Augustine’s University," Ath-
letic Director George Williams
said. "At this time, we feel it's best to go in another direc-
tion."
Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Mi-
chael Morand has been elevated
to interim head football coach. He
has over 14 years of coaching ex-
perience on the professional and
collegiate levels.
Tremayne Henry has also
been relieved of his duties as de-
fensive coordinator/recruiting co-
ordinator at the university.

with Charlotte including reduced hotel rates CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic As-
sociation (CIAA) held a press conference last week to announce some
details of its new six-year
agreement with the City of
Charlotte and with Hornets
Sports & Entertainment to
host its annual Men's and
Women's Basketball Tour-
naments.The event unveiled
plans for a new housing
program that will allow fans
to secure lodging in Center
City Charlotte at lower rates
that previous years directly
from the CIAA and to move early rounds of the tournament to the Good-
Sports and Bojangles' Coliseum Complex in 2017. Ticket sales and hotel
rooms associated with the Tournament were to be available via theciaa.
com beginning Sept. 8.
"We want to thank our hotel partners for coming to an agreement we
believe will meet the needs of our most loyal fans and those just being
introduced to the CIAA," said CIAA CommissionerJacqie McWilliams.
McWilliams, City of Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter, Mecklenburg
County Commission Chairman Trevor Fuller, Hornets President Fred
Whiteld and Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority (CRVA) CEO TomMurray were on hand to honor the commitment made last March follow-
ing the 2014 tournament to bring new vision to the multi-day, citywide
celebration.
The CIAA also plans to relocate their conference headquarters toCharlotte in the coming years. The contract species $100,000 in reloca-
tion support. The transition will enable the conference, the CRVA and
other Charlotte entities to more effectively partner in the community, pro-
viding increased visibility for the CIAA and helping to secure enhanced
sponsorships benetting the 12 member-institutions.
The three-party contract was signed during the press announcement
and is set t o be shared with the CIAA and CRVA boards of directors. Once
complete, the CRVA will share the contract upon request.
