Channel contributor. Alveda is the niece of Martin Luther King, Jr. and

daughter of Alfred Daniel William King who fought for Civil Rights at his brother’s side. Alveda’s mom almost aborted her so she could continue

on in college, but was persuaded to keep Alveda alive. Alveda herself had two

abortions before she was born again in 1983. Since then she has lobbied on behalf of unborn babies across the United States believing they have the Civil Right to Live!

Barak Hussein Obama II (b. 1961) is the first African American President

Yale University and University of Michigan Medical School. A devout Christian and Republican, Ben Carson takes a strong stand for conservative values like

protection of the unborn, hard work, and strong families. He is married to Candy and they have 3 children.

Booker Taliaferro Washington (1856-1915) established Tuskegee Institute in Alabama in 1881 and led the school until his death. The college started

out in a local church. Under his oversight, the students built the buildings

themselves on a former plantation. Tuskegee students learned trades and academics so they could make it in the strange world they found

themselves in—freed from slaves, but not accepted as equals. Born into slavery, Booker worked in the coal mines of West Virginia earning enough money to pay for his

education at Hampton Institute, followed by Wayland Seminary. A devout Christian,

Booker T. Washington put Jesus at the center of Tuskegee and put his faith into practice. He was a sought-after speaker and author. He believed the way to being

accepted as equals was through education and having a trade. He helped start the

National Negro Business League.
