Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s hard to believe that we are half
way through Term 3! Staff and students
are busy preparing for Celebration of
Learning, which will take place at the
end of this term. In the last two weeks,
we have travelled to Sandon Public
School in Armidale for our annual
Science Day where students participated in a range of Science
Activities, enjoyed by all students. Thank you to all staff who
attended, ensuring a successful excursion. Last week, we held
our Book Fair Parade. I attended professional learning at our
Northern Tablelands Network Learning Day for Principals, and
on Wednesday, we are going to Wattle Ridge to celebrate
NAIDOC Week.
I am excited to report that our rigorous External Validation
process and journey has
been submitted. In two
weeks’ time, our panel will
meet with our teaching
team to analyse our
submission. I’d like to thank
all our staff for their support
and expertise during this
time.
I’d like to wish Mrs Sally
Castle, our transition co-ordinator all the very best as she takes
up a full-time position at another school. We wish her well in
her new position and would like to take this
opportunity to thank her for her dedication to our school. Her
expertise provided all transition students with the best possible
start to their education and I thank her on behalf of all families
and staff for her commitment to public education. At present,
our transition class has expanded and we now have a class of 10
which is very exciting for our school. Mrs Nikki Robinson will be
our Transition teacher.
Kindest regards,
Mrs Justine Eddy

Reminder
On Friday, 16th August 2019 students from Black Mountain Public School participated in a Science Day in Armidale, hosted by Sandon Public School.
The students attended a range of workshops, allowing them to explore the different areas Science has to offer.
K-2 students engaged in workshops based around sound, the human brain, healthy eating habits and robotics. They had a wonderful day exploring, through hands-on activities and extending their knowledge of Science.
The 3-6 students enjoyed colourful chemistry making elephant toothpaste using a variety of household products that created a fun chemical reaction. They also participated in exciting electronics using batteries to power up a small light bulb. The last activity for the day was exploring seeds and insects where they duplicated a paper seed to represent the transportation of seeds in the environment.
P&C Meeting
Just a reminder the next meeting of the P&C is Monday, 2nd
September 2019 at 6pm.
We would love to see some new faces to help support our
great school. Come along, have a bite to eat and share your
ideas with our P&C.
Our great P&C will once again be catering at our annual
Celebration of Learning which will be a great night to get
together with family and friends to celebrate our students
learning so far this year.
No Hat No Play
As part of our school uniform policy all students are required
to wear a broad brimmed hat at recess and lunchtime and
for all other outside activities.
If your child does not have a hat they will be asked to sit in
the shade at recess and lunchtime. Please ensure your child
has a hat at school at all times.
The green broad brimmed hats can be purchased from
Terrys Menswear in Guyra.

Term 3, 2019 – Week 6 Tuesday, 27th August 2019
Our Book Fair was a great hit with the students taking
advantage of the many interesting and colourful books
on display that Scholastic Books provided for us. Some
students were lucky enough to have a voucher to spend
as their prize for costume originality and design.
The students excelled with their costumes this year
which made it difficult for our judges to decide on the
winners of the various categories.
The results from the parade were:
Khaleal Iboai— Year 5
Jayda Hayes—Year 5
Amber Hayes—Year 4
Xavier Maunder—Year 2
Tanyarli Patterson—Year 1
Savannah Veall—Kindergarten
Book Fair and Parade
Last Thursday we had the pleasure of working with Mr
Murray from Guyra Central School on some STEM
inspired challenges. His visit was the first of a number
of opportunities that will take place, to facilitate our
transition to high school program during Terms 3 and 4.
Last week, our challenge was to work in two teams to
create a solid weight-bearing structure using only blue-
tac and spaghetti .
The students did a fantastic job collaborating with their
project, following this up with effective team work to
test and amend their ideas. We look forward to the
next experience which will take place at Guyra Central
School.
