• Demand dropped after the War of 1812
• New economic opportunities
• Free blacks and slave’s tremendous amounts of labor helped pave the land we live on today.
• Transformation of cash crop agriculture dramatically affected the nature of slavery by the beginning of the 19th century.
• Many slaveholders were reluctant even at the face of greater economic gain, to sell beyond the county limits.
