Welcome to Blackpool Unitarians

Unitarians are very different

• We don’t have a particular set of beliefs that we expect

you to agree with.

• Everyone who comes to our church is free to discover

their own spiritual path.

• Whatever you believe will be respected by us.

• We will try to support you on your spiritual journey or

just provide an understanding ear.

• We do not judge anyone.

• You will always be made welcome.

We light the chalice flame at the beginning of our services at

10.45 every Sunday.

Ahoy there!!

A person without a purpose is like a ship without a rud-

der.

Don’t just be a piece of driftwood floating on the sea of

life.

We were made for joy and woe and, when this we

rightly know, through the world we safely go.

Joy and woe are woven fine - a clothing for the soul di-

vine.

What a coincidence!!

I was working with a couple of Kiwi drillers in the

goldfields of Western Australia. They invited me out

for a Friday night drink with them and all their mates.

I turned up at the Criterion pub in Kalgoorlie to find

them and a crowd of friends surrounding the bar.

As the beer flowed and the wallets became lighter, the

banter increased and one of the drillers became curious

as to how long I had been in Australia. After telling him

‘five weeks’, the next question was ‘Where do you come

from?’

I glanced up at the TV screen above the bar and yelled

‘There!!!’ On the screen was my farm in in Crimsworth

Dean, near Hebden Bridge! It was a tourist film

promoting the delights of the Bronté area.

I was 9,230 miles from home and there was my farm

and the valley below on the TV. What a coincidence!

(This reminded me of turning on the TV in Japan

and seeing the crumbling dam and evacuation

of Whaley Bridge!)

“Cuius tesculos habes, habeas cardia et cerebellum!”

(“When you have their full aenon in your grip, their

hearts and minds will follow.”)

Sir Terry Pratche, “Small Gods”

Low autumn sun and dewy mornings are a good

time to see spider’s webs out and about. As strong

as steel, but able to flex up to five times their

length without breaking, spider’s ‘draglines’ are re-

markable. They can also withstand temperatures

as low as –40°C and up to 220°C.
