Term 4 - Week 6 Dear Parents and Carers, BLC EXPO Seven of our students displayed their skills in robotics and entered the challenge at the EXPO held Vardys Rd Public School on Thursday 8 th November. Blacktown West came third in the challenge. Well done!! These students have been working every week to develop their coding skills in the interest group with Mrs Flanagan and Mrs Parry. Satyandra, Nityam, Lois, Abeshoth, Maya, Arman,and Arthusen. Check out the challenge on our website. 2019 PREFECTS Students from Year 2 to Year 6 have voted for the best candidates to make up the 2019 prefect team of ten student leaders. The prefect team will be announced at the Academic Presentation Assembly. AWARDS If you have ten awards with a tree on them, please hand these in so you dont miss out on your special award. LEAVERS If you are moving next year, please notify the front office in writing as soon as possible. We need to sort out classes and staffing for next year and we need accurate data. Thank you. HOLIDAY JOURNALS Congratulations to all of the K-2 students and parents who participated in the holiday journal program. 92 students returned their journals to school this term. Last Thursday, the children shared their writing with their peers. Well done everybody! PARKING Make sure you are not parked illegally outside the school. The rangers were patrolling last week and have taken several number plates to issue fines. Do NOT park in the bus zones. Please do not call your children to cross Lancaster or Blue Hills Crescent between the lights. This is an extremely dangerous practice. I have witnessed this happening several times in the last few weeks. BUS TRAVEL: URGENT All students need either a school OPAL card or an OPAL card with money to be allowed on the bus. Busways are supervising the bus runs and noting all students without OPAL cards. SRC PANCAKE DAY Tuesday 30 th October SRC raised $827 What a fantastic effort by the SRC and all the families that supported the SRC! This money will go towards updating our WIFI so that all the devices can be operated at once. This is an expensive project $44,000. However with the help of the SRC and the P & C we should be able to give the go ahead to start the process soon.

Dear Parents and Carers,

BLC EXPO

Seven of our students displayed their skills in robotics and entered the challenge at the EXPO held Vardy’s Rd Public School on Thursday 8

th November. Blacktown

HELPERS MORNING TEA On Monday 3

rd December from 10:30 am to 11:20am, we invite all the parents who have assisted the students in the

classroom, in the canteen, in scripture and as part of the P & C to come along and enjoy a “thank you” morning tea from the staff and students at Blacktown West. The morning tea will be held in the library.

GALA DAY Friday 30th November

Please make sure rides/slushies and fairy floss are paid for each child separately not as a family. Each student will have received their own note.

Return your notes for all day ride passes, slushies and fairy floss.

DONATIONS: S.R.C. CHRISTMAS HAMPER If you have any items for the Christmas hamper, they would be most welcome. Student have raffle ticket booklets to sell to family and friends. Extra raffle ticket booklets are available from the front office.

KINDERGARTEN 2019 If you or someone you know has a child who is eligible for Kindergarten in 2019, please enrol as soon as possible. Enrolments are open and plans are underway for our Orientation sessions.

Stage 1 Fun Day: Thursday 6th December. Payment is due online by Tuesday 4

th December and cash payment by

Wednesday 5th December at 11:00 am. The cost is $11:00.

PARENT SESSION Thursday 29th

November 9:00 am to 10:00 am Keep this date free. Mrs Garbutt and Mrs Brierley will outline what you can do to help your child in the holidays as well as highlighting all the resources and activities that will be available in the Blacktown Library during the holidays

HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION TIMES Make sure you check the High School notes. Several of the High Schools are providing extra transition sessions so that students are familiar with their new setting. Check out your times so that you do not miss the sessions. The main transition date is set out as Tuesday 4th December.

REMINDER Please make sure that names are written on jackets, lunch boxes and water bottles. The playground is often littered with these items and we are unable to return them if they are not labelled. If you have lost an item, please check the lost property outside KL room. We need your help!

We welcome parents and grandparents as volunteers at our school to help students with reading.

At Blacktown West Public School we run a structured Intensive Reading Program using methods and resources from the MULTILIT Program. Helpers will be trained in how to support students in intensive one-on-one reading sessions that focus on sight words, word attack skills and reinforced reading to improve reading skills. Training will be provided in Term 1, 2019.
