Principal’s Message

Term 3, Weeks 7 and 8

I know I have said this many times before, but we have the worlds best community! Thank you to everyone who

contributed and supported our Colour Run last weekend! The community spirit was amazing and in this time of

drought, it was incredible to see people come together and add some colour and laughter into other peoples lives.

Once again our ever amazing P and C rose to the occasion, organising the entire day and cooking the post event BBQ.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in this. Thank you to the Blackville community and to those who came from

further afield to support our event, which has now turned into a major fundraising event for our school, making just

over $1500 on the day. We are considering making this an annual event, so if anyone has feedback of the day, please

don’t hesitate to contact me about any comments or suggestions you might have.

I’m not really sure if I can say the weather is warming up or cooling down but regardless of the uncertainty of

what the weather is doing, please ensure your children have plenty of water and a school hat in their bag. At this

time of the year, jumpers may still need to be worn, and labelling them with children’s name greatly assists us in

locating the owners when they are left in the classrooms.

As we move into the last two weeks of Term 3, I would just like to thank everyone for their commitment and

support of our school, I greatly appreciate all that you do.

Fathers Day Raffle

Thank you to everyone who supported our Fathers Day raffle last month. We hope all our fathers had a wonderful day and

were spoilt rotten by their families. Congratulations to our raffle winners

Gear Wrench Set: Chelsea

Darrell Lea Chocolate Bag: Val

$50 Super Cheap voucher: Rose

Bottle of Alcohol: Krystal

Fresh for Kids Program

Thank you to all those families who have supported our school in taking part in the Fresh

for Kids Program. Students are excited to be tallying their fruit consumption and receiving their

textas as reward. Fresh for Kids was developed in 1997 in an attempt to combat the alarmingly

low levels of fresh fruit and vegetable consumption within primary school aged children. Since

then, the program has grown from strength to strength, with consistent increases in

participation. Now, over 250,000 students (including 10 from Blackville PS) directly participate

in at least one part of the program each year.

Ready Set Go!

We are still taking names for those students who are starting Kindergarten next year. Even if families are thinking of enrolling their children at another local school, we would love to assist the children in their transition. Please contact the school on 02 67474024 for more information.

Genius Hour

Thank you to Jess for engaging with our students during Genius Hour in Week 7.

Students were very lucky to be able to design and paint their own terracotta pots.

There were lots of great ideas being put onto the pots including cultural symbols, lush

green gardens, rainbows and volcanoes. We can’t wait to see what wonderful things

are grown in them in the upcoming months. We look forward to what Phil and

Georgina are going to do in Week 9.

Thank you to all our parents who have taken part in Genius Hour this year. The

students and staff really appreciate the wonderful opportunities you provide for our

school and consider ourselves extremely lucky for your input into our school.

Healthy Harold

Unfortunately our scheduled visit from Healthy Harold and his team had to be postponed this week, as even healthy giraffes

get sick. Thankfully we have a new date which is now Tuesday 22nd October. We look forward to seeing a much Healthier Harold

back in Blackville. Thank you to the Quirindi CWA and Blacktown City Lions Club who supported every primary school child in the

Liverpools Plains Shire to have access to the Life Education Program.

New furniture

During week 7, we were very excited to take delivery of some new furniture

for both our library and main classroom. Old schools desks were exchanged for

new state of the art whiteboard tables with tote trays underneath and flex chairs.

Learning booths were installed as part of our flexible seating plans and brand new

cupboards ensured learning books and activities are stored neatly and safely.

Teachers also received new ergonomic chairs to encourage lots of quality texts

being read as part of our whole school program.

Sporting Schools

We are very excited to have Greg from Hockey NSW come out to Blackville

Public School and teach our students some of the skills of hockey. Last week,

students learnt about the parts of a hockey stick, our representative hockey

teams, how to dribble and stop the ball. Safety was also a key focus. All students

including Thomas, our Ready Set Go! student had a wonderful time and are

looking forward to leaning about tackling in the next session. The school will be

purchasing some new hockey equipment in the coming weeks to consolidate this

earning after the program has concluded.

Colour Run

As mentioned earlier in the newsletter, our P and C put on a wonderful display at our

very first Colour Run. O’neile Street was transformed into a colourful explosion of green, blue,

yellow, purple and pink. Thanks to Krystal for organising the Colour Run and Phil, Georgina,

Michael, Jeff, Kathy, Jess, Sarah and Rose for your contributions on the day. Congratulations to

Steve (former student of BPS) for running first on the day, Logan for being the first current BPS

student over the line and to Logan and Chelsea for raising over $250 each in fundraising!

Congratulations to all our other students who ran and fundraised on the day.

P and C Meeting

Our last P and C meeting for this term was held on Wednesday 4th September, with many things being discussed and

reviewed. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday 31st October at 3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend as we are always willing

to hear some new ideas.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the catering of the Chemical Refresher Course held in Week 7. Val and Georgina’s

lasagne was very well received, as were the cakes, slices and fruit cooked by our parents and carers. Thanks everyone for another

great catering job.

School Payments

Thanks to everyone who has continued to make payments towards their school fees. The majority of cooking fees are now

up to date, so cooking will resume in Week 8. Don’t forget music fees will also need to be paid before Mr Garrett returns at the

start of Term 4.

Regional Athlectics

Congratulations to Logan, Hannah, Isabella, Willson, Charlie and Darcy who are representing our school and North West at

the Regional Athletics carnival in Tamworth today. We wish you all the very best and look forward to sharing your successes in next

weeks newsletter.

World War 1 excursion

On Thursday 19th September, students will travel to Spring Ridge Public School to take part in a World War 1 incursion.

Students will learn about the sacrifices made by our soldiers during this war and some valuable facts about this time in history. A

sausage sizzle lunch will be provided for $5.

Speakfest

Students from Year 2 will be travelling to Spring Ridge on Wednesday 25th September and presenting their speeches as part

of our Small Schools Network. Please continue to practise these over the coming week, making sure chidren speak slowly, cleary

and with lots of expression.

QHS 2020 Year 7 Advisor visit

On the same day as Speakfest, Miss McInnes from Quirindi High School will be visiting our Year 6 students to assist them in

their transition to Year 7 next year. This is a valuable time, whereby students can form a wonderful rapport with their Year 7

advisor. Thank you to QHS and Miss McInnes for taking the time to invest in this transition process. Further details regarding future

transitions dates will be sent home soon.
