Dear Parents and Carers, It is always wonderful to see what each class has been learning about in our Primary newsletter! I understand that there was rather a lot of baking on Friday, so hopefully you got to know all about it from your child! Attached to the newsletter is some important information regarding Free School Meals. If you are eligible, please apply as it will help our school funding to provide for your child. This week, I have included some information about one of our teachers at Secondary Department who has been nominated for Haringey’s ‘Teacher of the Year Award’. In Nursery and Reception, we have been looking at a story called 'Percy the Park Keeper: One snowy night'. The story setting takes places in a park in the woods. We have been learning the names of lots of different woodland animals as well as using the story sack to re-enact the story. We have also made a wooden hut in our classroom where Percy lives, acting out the story with different props. We went to HG woods where we made a wooden hut and pretended to be the animals, knocking on the door before crawling inside. We also went to Topsy Turvy and had lots of fun climbing, sliding, running, crawling and jumping with our friends.

Ben’s Class

Year 6 had a fantastic afternoon carving pumpkins for Halloween - we designed them, hollowed them out and carved them to create our scary faces! We also decorated some ghostly biscuits... Recently, we have been learning about early Anglo-Saxon invaders in History, making Viking boat collages in art, learning about angles and turns in maths, and writing newspaper headlines in English.

In our year 1 and 2 class we have been very busy learning

about our new topic ‘Celebrations’. We decided to turn

our role play area into a birthday corner; we made lovely

birthday hats with our mainstream friends.

We created beautiful fireworks picture and talked about

sounds that fireworks make. We also talked about the

celebration of Diwali and Eid.

KS2 were lucky enough to work with the RSPB on a na-

ture workshop . This workshop was really fun and al-

lowed the children to get to know their natural environ-

ment. We learnt about trees, leaves, insects and birds. It

was amazing how many different types of insets, birds

and trees we have on our school grounds!

Important Dates

Sharon’s Class In our class we watched videos of fireworks, listened to sound clips of fireworks and read firework poems. Then we thought of words and phrases to describe them and wrote them on rockets and explosion shapes. We even used a paint program on the computer to draw them! Finally, we wrote and performed our own fantastic firework poems.

As part of our topic on Chocolate, we have turned our role play area into a chocolate shop. We made playdough chocolates and sweets, lollipops and sweet jars and have written price lists, signs and labels to help our customers!
