“Blessed Are The Merciful”
Matthew 5:7Luke 10:30-37
• Mercy is compassion: refraining from harming offenders; a disposition to forgive or be kind.
• Merciful is active compassion.
• God has compassion for those who repent (Luke 15:7).
• Jews had no compassion for the Romans.
• Romans had little compassion for life.
God’s Mercy• The earth is full of His mercy (Psa 119:64)
• His mercy reaches to the heavens (Psa 36:5; 57:10; 108:4).
• His mercy is everlasting (Psa 100:5; 103:17; 136 - 26 times).
• His mercy is the reason David prayed in times of trouble (Psa 59:16; 66:20).
God’s Mercy
• Our Response: To act toward others as God does (Luke 6:35-36).
Mercy• David (1 Sam 26:8-10).

• Stephen (Acts 7:59-60).
• Esau (Gen 27:41; 33:4).
• Joseph (Gen 45:4-5; 50:17-21).
Mercy• Destitute (1 John 3:17; Prov 14:21; 19:17; Ecc
11:1 Luke 10; Acts 20:35).
• Sad & Depressed (Heb 12:11-13; 1 Th 5:14).

• Openly sinful (Luke 18).
• All souls (Gal 3:22; Rom 11:32-33).
“For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy” (Jas 2:13).
“Shall obtain mercy”
• From the merciful (Prov 19:17; 21:13).
• From God through forgiveness (Acts 2:38).
• On Judgment Day (2 Tim 1:16-18; Matt 25).
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were
healed. 25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the
Shepherd and Guardian of your souls (1 Peter 2:24-25).
