The Symbols of Pentecost
Wind: Representing God’s first breath of love (Ruah) into all of creation. A “driving wind” surrounded the apostles on that first Pentecost to strengthen them in their faith. The breath of the Holy Spirit - and sometimes a gusting wind—strengthens and challenges God’s people on their faith journey.
Fire: Representing the Holy Spirit, who filled the apostles with enthusi-asm, replacing their fear with the courage to go forth and share Christ’s story. “Tongue of fire...came to rest on each of them.
Red: The color liturgical vestments on Pentecost, representing the dyna-mism of the Holy Spirit and the zeal of those who open their hearts to the Spirit.
Water: Representing new life and the commitment first made at the time of our baptism and renewed throughout our faith lives.
Dove: Representing the Holy Spirit that descended “like a dove” and hovered over Jesus when he was baptized. Symbol of peace. Father Mark invites you to wear RED to Mass on Pentecost Sunday, May 20th.
Share Sunday ~ Date Change
The Share Sunday collection this month will be held on Sunday, May 20th in honor of our wonderful volunteers who would like to enjoy Mother’s Day. We will have Share Sunday a week later.
God bless everyone, our volunteers and those parishioners who donate so generously.
Christian Women
Blessed Sacrament members are invited to say the Rosary along with the Christian Women at 11:30 AM, Saturday, May 19th. We will meet in the court yard dedicated to the Blessed mother by the West entrance. If there is inclement weather, we will go into Fr. Turner Hall.
