Sunday, March 15, 2020 Third Sunday of Lent

Reconciliation: Wednesday - 11:30 a.m. - Noon Saturday - 10:30 -11:30 a.m.

In an old cartoon strip, there are two men crawling across the desert. By the looks of

them, you can tell that they’ve been out in the sun for a very long time. Finally, off in

the distance, they see an oasis, with palm trees and a pond. The men’s faces light

up, and then one of the men says to the other, “I hope they have Cappuccino!” This

is a perfect example that demonstrates, what we want is very often not what we need.

Today, we have a woman who comes to get her daily water in the middle of the day, when no other person

would ever come to the well. This is because she has been completely ostracized by her family and her

neighbors.

So what is she looking for at the well? Water, of course, but even more; she’s looking for things like

acceptance, forgiveness, salvation and redemption, and she found it there with this person called Jesus. He

knew her, before he even met her there, and he gave her what she needed, namely the Living Water of

Redemption.

Why are we here today then? What are we looking for—a wafer of bread and a sip of wine? No, just like the

woman at the well, we’re looking for much more, namely the acceptance that comes only with the Love of God.

He covers us with His living water and feeds us with His body and blood.

Come to the WATER!

Fr. Marty
