Violas and Pansy Fun Facts: Viola Flowers are smaller than their Pansy cousins - about the size of a nickel.
If the flower has four petals pointing upward and only one pointing downward – you’re looking at a Pansy. If the flower has two petals pointing upward and three petals pointing downward – you’ve got a Viola.

GranulationGranulation is the effect you get when the pigment particles clump together rather than settling evenly on the painted surface. As a very general rule, the finer the particles, the less they granulate. Watercolors that granulate can create added texture and interest to your painting.
The Daniel Smith PrimaTek LineSerpentine Genuine is from the Daniel Smith Primatek line. Many of the DANIEL SMITH PrimaTek Watercolors are made from minerals that produce vibrant, luminous colors, like Serpentine Genuine and many more. There are 35 colors in the Primatek line. I enJOY Serpentine Genuine because of its granulation in my floral paintings. It helps add texture, depth and dimension in my leaves and greenery.
Mixed Palette Color Series on my YouTube ChannelenJOY my six part series where I share my favorite mixed brand watercolors I use for floral paintings and more. I swatch and share information about every color choice and the unique properties of that color. Watch HERE.

Painting Viola Blooms in WatercolorBlobbin’ + Layering
Layering + Glazing Techniques to Get the GLOW
Glazing is also called layering. This technique can help you control the value of the color you are painting with. Glazing deepens color and shade by overlaying washes of watercolor. When you let the paint dry in between layers,
you can achieve luminous layers and texture that GLOW.
