The Scholarly Communication Committee blogs are intended to serve as the principal means of written communication among the Scholarly Communication Committee members.

Additional advantages of the blog format are that it groups committee communications into one place; the information is searchable; and it automatically archives the committee’s communications.

However, it also serves as a method for AAHSL members to be kept informed of committee activities and to participate in online discussions of specific issues.

IMPORTANT: Don’t communicate by email any longer. Either initiate a Post or use the Comment feature to add your input to an earlier Post. That way, all committee input will be included in the blog.

You’ll continue to receive email (from two sources) to simply alert you whenever someone on the committee has added something to the blog. (Make sure they are not going to your spam filter).

When there’s a new Post, it will be “From: ScholCom Blog Manager [email protected]”When there’s new comments, it will be “From: Haloscan [email protected]

The emails will also let you see the content of the Posts or Comments that were added. Unfortunately, the formatting of a Post will be run together making it difficult to read. However, its purpose is simply to alert you that new information has been Posted…so you should go to the Blog and react to it there.

Two blogs have been set up:

• Open to all AAHSL members • Available only to ScholCom Members

The purpose in having a second “ScholComOnly” area that is restricted to committee members only is twofold:

• it permits the exchange of sensitive communication (e.g. commenting on strengths and weaknesses of a potential speaker)

• it keeps the other blog from being cluttered with logistical information about meeting times, agendas etc. rather than the substantive content of the blog.

• The content is not included in results from automated indexing tools (such as Google, Yahoo etc.). • Only AAHSL members can access the blog. • Only Scholarly Communication Committee members can initiate a “Post”. • All AAHSL members (including committee members) can “Comment” on a Post.

The two blogs are connected to each other through the ‘Links’ area of the sidebars on each blog.

This permits ScholCom members to conveniently toggle between the two blogs.

Initiating a New Post

•From the home page, click on ‘New Post’

Fill in the information on the Post template as indicated below. When finished, click on ‘Preview’ to see what it will look like on the blog.

When satisfied, click on the ‘Publish Post’ button. This will now be posted on the blog.

Adding Comments to a Post

There is an option to add a Comment at the end of each Post. Simply fill out the ‘Comment form’ with your name, email address, and your comment. It will be uploaded immediately.

There is also an option for you to be notified if there are follow-up remarks to your comment.

However, don’t use it…as a ScholCom Committee member, you will already be receiving notifications by email when there is a new Post or Comment on either blog.

If you choose to be notified, you’ll be getting duplicate notifications.
