We are learning about magic e spelling patterns We are learning to write about our feelings. Task: Set Text Read your allocated book on Bug Club. When you go into ‘My Stuff’ you will find books in either or both of the guided and independent tabs. Make sure you click on the bugs to do the questions and when finished click done to earn your coins. At the end of your online book will be a task for you to complete. It may be something to talk about, do, draw or write. Keep practising your words regularly you will find a list of tricky words below. Along with your sound knowledge, these will help you read your set text more fluently. Task: Character description Listen to the story ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister and watch the animation. Click on the links. As The Rainbow Fish travels through the ocean showing off his beautiful scales he learns that sharing and caring are a lot more important than being beautiful. During his journey, he encounters some sea creatures who point him in the right direction to becoming a nicer fish. Look at the ‘Character Description’ sheet; in the word bank box there are many words that could be used to describe the Rainbow Fish at different parts of the story. Read through the words, some you might need help with and choose the ones you think best describe the Rainbow Fish. Write them on the lines around the fish and colour in the picture. You don’t need to print the sheet off as this can be done in your jotter. Challenge: Look at the ’Character Description – Sentences’ sheet. Write a sentence for 3 or more of the words saying why you think that about the Rainbow Fish. This can be completed on the sheet or in your jotter. Sad is like raindrops dribbling down my window. Calm is like snow falling on a winters morning. Angry is like the loud booms in a thunderstorm. Love is like hugging your teddy bear. Scared is like the shadows that appear at night. Have a look at the rainbow and cloud images below. Your task is to write on each part of the rainbow what the feeling is and the image you are linking it with. Make sure the dotted line is on your left and the feelings word is on your right before you start to write. Use the examples above to help you form each sentence. Once finished your writing make up your Rainbow Cloud

Task: Make a story Diorama (19/6/20)*A diorama is a 3 dimensional mini theatre or model*

If you haven’t already done so choose a story to base your diorama on. This week we are focusing on The Rainbow Fish but any sea story of your choice will do.

Attached below are The Rainbow Fish characters that you can print out and attach to lollipop sticks to make puppets for your model. Otherwise make characters using craft materials in your home. If you decide to do the Rainbow Fish make sure you find some sparky material for those beautiful scales.

Please upload any completed 2D or 3D diorama on to Teams in Assignments and in the general channel so all your friends can see your wonderful creations!!!

Once finished your writing make up your Rainbow Cloud Cut out both parts of the cloud and stick them

together. Use glitter to make it sparkly, cotton wool to make it fluffy or even give it a face!!

Cut each coloured strip and stick each rainbow section to the underside of the cloud. Make sure the dotted line is hidden behind the cloud and you may need to overlap the rainbow sections to get them to fit under the cloud.

Display your feelings Rainbow Cloud somewhere special where everyone can see it.

You don’t need to use the templates below to make your Rainbow Cloud, you can use whatever you have in your craft box! Get creative!!!

Post your finished Rainbow Clouds on to the general channel on Teams.

Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s

Being able to count in 2s, 5s and 10s is a very helpful skill. We sometimes call is skip counting. It makes telling the time, counting money and times tables a lot easier as you move on up through the school.

On YouTube search for ‘Jack Hartman’ or ‘Scratch Garden’ followed by ‘counting in 2s/5s/10s’. Share your favourite video on your class Teams page.

• Complete the missing number sequences below by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Start at green and see how far you can go. Some might even go backwards! • Use flashcards to make your own missing number sequences.• Find some small change around your house and use it to practise counting in 2s,5s and 10s.• Join the dots below by counting in 2s, 5s or 10s to complete the pictures. If you don’t have access to a printer (or would like a challenge) try making your own.• Make a skip counting spiral snake, kite or paper plate (see links in ICT).• Keep active and count – practise skipping or hopping, each time you skip or count say a number and keep counting up in 2s, 5s or 10s. If you enjoy a challenge you could also practise this backwards.

Pictograms and Bar Graphs

Did you know that plastic pollution is a huge problem in our oceans? Every day approximately 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans. In recent studies scientists found plastic in EVERY sea turtle they studied. Watch the video to find out more. A great way to help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans is by reducing, reusing and recycling. This week we will use our maths skills to see how good we are at this.

PictogramsEach day this week record on the pictogram (below) each item you recycle. You can draw this table out if you do not have a printer. At the end of the week, answer the questions to evaluate how good you are at recycling.

Bar GraphsIf you are able to do so safely, take a walk around your local area. On the chart below use tally marks to record how many pieces of litter you see (crisp packets, drinks cans, sweet wrappers, chewing gum, plastic bottles, other) – hopefully there’s not a lot! Please do not touch or collect any of the litter. As kind and respectful as that would be it Is currently not safe to do so.When you get back to your house, use the information you have gathered to create a bar chart. There are 2 templates below. The first has a scale going up in 1s. If you would like more of a challenge, you can use the template with the scale that goes up in 2s. If you have an odd number you will need to colour half of the final box.

Note: when you are using tallies you can do them in 2 ways:Pre tally marks - Single lines e.g. |||||| = 6

Full tally marks – lines and cross at 5 (we say close the gate) when you get to 5 e.g. |||| | = 6. This is a great way to practise counting in 5s.

IDL Health and WellbeingWe are learning all about sea creatures We are learning how to show kindness to others

This week we are diving down under the sea to explore some sea life that lives there. Watch the video that is linked above for an A-Z of different sea animals (the first 2minutes 10 seconds of the video). Choose any 4 of these sea animals, perhaps there are some you haven’t heard of before and some you have seen or even know a little about. Can you research an interesting fact about each of them? You could transfer your information below into the ‘My under the sea Animal Facts’ sheet. You could also draw a picture of them in the box or even find one on the internet to print out and stick on.

Expressive Arts:Arts & Crafts – We are going to create a story Diorama linked to our literacy activities based on a seaside or under the sea story. You could choose one of the stories listed or one that you may have linked to the sea at home. Have a think about the story you have chosen and what you need to create your diorama. These could include real life objects like shells and sand, you could make your sea life from anything you have around the house. Have a look at the Diorama examples below to give you some inspiration. Please upload your diorama onto Assignments on Microsoft teams for Friday 19th June. We are already looking forward to seeing your creations!

Health & Wellbeing: The Rainbow Fish – This is such a special book that the P1 teachers love! If you don’t have a copy of the book at home have a listen to it by clicking on the link above. *Do you think the Rainbow Fish liked having his special sparkly scales? Why? *If you were the Rainbow Fish would you give away your scales to your friends? Why? *How do you think the Rainbow Fish would feel when he had no special sparkly scales left? Why? *Would you like to be friends with the Rainbow Fish? Why?

-Read the letter from the Rainbow Fish below asking for help. Have a think about what you could use to create scales to make and stick onto the Rainbow Fish outline. Remember the sparklier the better!

-Think of a time where you have shown kindness to someone. What did you do for them? How did it make you feel? Can you draw a detailed picture to show what you did and how they reacted to your kindness?

Microsoft Teams:We are continuing to develop our use of teams for completing and uploading assignments and checking-in, which all seem to be going well so far. Remember the ‘Check-in’ channel is only to say ‘Hi!’ to your friends but when posting your fabulous work remember to use the ‘General’ channel. This week we will start to use ‘meetings’ where you will get a chance to talk to your teacher directly using text at an allocated time, see below for times. At the specified time, click on the channel designated for your weekly chat and you will be able to talk to your teacher. Daily Check-In –This is a chat room where it is encouraged to say ‘Hi!’ on a daily basis. Assignments – Log onto Teams and look on the Assignment tab at the top bar in the ‘general’ channel, you will find the

specific assignments for this week. Try to get the assignments back in the suggested time but no pressure if you run over!! Your class teacher will mark or comment on your assignment once it has been handed in.
