Blood Romance: A Project Proposal

(Working Title)

Background:

NBS NBCs program in its commitment to be the leader provider of blood and blood products advocates and promotes voluntary blood

donation as a major strategy in attaining safe blood for all.

Pledge 25 program is one of the many programs of RCY in reaching out with the youth. In line with the departments support to the NBS

program, it organizes young members in school and community to donate their blood in a regular basis before they reach the age of 25 or leave

the school. Every member will acts as a recruiter to encourage other students in the school/universities to donate their blood voluntarily and

continue to be a regular blood donor thereafter.

Blood Romance is a one year proposed project by NBS-NBC in partnership with Pledge 25 program of the RCY in response to the World

Blood Donors Day theme New Blood for the World which focuses on the youth. This entails an interschool competition that will challenge

universities and colleges to be actively involved with voluntary blood donation.

Goal:

To involve and empower the youth towards voluntary blood donation

Objectives:

y Encourage participation of colleges and universities around the metro in voluntary blood donationy Develop youth advocatesy Develop donor retention strategies for the youthy Bring out the camaraderie of RCY with other school organizations by working together for a good cause.y Increase and ensure the availability of safe and reliable blood supply organized by the RCY Pledge 25 officers.y Create an opportunity for youth to be acknowledged and recognized for the important role they play in blood donation.

Month Activities

July to August 2010 y Coordination of the BSR, Donor recruitment with the RCY regarding identification of colleges anduniversities that has active and non active participation with Red Cross

y Identify and invite the newly elected officer/s and their respective adviser of RCY of each school to takepart to the Blood Romance project.

y Bring together the said schools for a meeting to discuss about the proposed project sponsored byNational Blood Center.

September 2010 y Hold a convention entitled Were all in this together..- Discussion of Red Cross PLEDGE 25- Importance of voluntary blood donation- Importance of youth participation on blood donation as a socio-civic responsibility especially

among the youth

- Appointment of a youth promoter/s for each school (Set duties and responsibilities)- Organizing a mass blood donation as the main event of the project- Discuss about the guideline and criteria for the said project- Discuss strategies on donor recruitment and retention of each school.

y Start of the Mass Blood Donation activity which will run until end of the 2nd semester with a follow upassessment meeting every after MBD activity. Discussion will be done to point out the activities
