this with Nancy Bruce in the Union County news. On June 20th Colleen and I worked on the 3rd American Red Cross Blood Drive of the year. It's an all day affair and 88 units of blood were donated. It was a very productive day. On June 21st the BlueMountianeers went to John and Jan Kelley's and had a pot luck supper and a jam session. We practiced for a CD that we are pro-ducing. On Saturday we met at the log house at the Union County Fair Grounds and recorded that CD and also backed up Jack Fox for his CD. Bill For-ester of Artistic Photography came and took the pic-tures we will use. Sandee Fox brought us all lunch and it was more like Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks Sandee. We want to thank Bill Forester for taking pictures, Jim Hale, from Elgin, for recording the CD, and George Neer, La Grande, for helping us with the building. The new CD will be released sometime in July. On Wednesday, June 26th Colleen and I will cele-brate our 54th wedding anniversary.

Thanks for all of you for your support. "We are better people when we are there for others." Denny Langford, President

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

On a belated activity on May 29th the BlueMounti-aneers held an appreciation dinner/dance at the La Grande Senior Center for all our supporters who come to our dances. Included in that event was the visit with Jack and Eva Cogburn, from Fallbrook, California. Jack and Eva were up at Sumpter and played there over the Memorial Day weekend. We had a nice evening with 70 in attendance and 22 couple dancers. It was a special evening and every-one seemed to have a good time. Our next stop was June 1st at Arlington, Oregon for our first show in the park for their fishing derby. As it turned out, with some doubts, Bill West ended up being a hero. Thanks to Bill for a good day had by all who attended. They want us back next year. See Bobby Stevens Morrow County news for all the details. On June 8th we went to the Enterprise show with Pat Samples. We had a good time there. Pat Sam-ples and Rylee Kreutzer had the place all set up for the evening. We checked into the motel and Col-leen and Pat disappeared to Joseph's Quilt Show. At 3:00 p.m. some of us went to the Wallowa Valley Care Center and played for over an hour. Those that played were Les and Evelene Haynes, Joan Gray, Mark Ludwick, Bill Henke, Bobby Stevens, Denny Evans and myself. Richard Rubicam came late but in time to play two tunes. The folks there really enjoyed us coming. Lester Kesicker, a great old time fiddler from Troy, is a resident there. He and his wife came in and listened to us. It was good to see them. Randy and Lisa Garnette and son Sam had their great BBQ supper. We had 26 entertainers plus Homemade Jam plus back ups, so they only played two tunes each. Nancy Trump had Caleb Samples play Charlie's old fiddle and he played one of her and Charlie's favorite songs. I thank Rylee, Josie and her brother, Ty, and Bailey for helping me pass things out for the evening. Bob and Jamie Hunt were in the motel as we were and the 4 of us had breakfast at the Red Rooster in Enterprise. On June 15th we went to Elgin, Oregon and played three hours for the Fireman's Breakfast. Read about

small, with plenty of entertainers. A good time was had by all. We had a rain shower or two but mostly the weather was nice, not too hot, not too cold. Then on June 1 we gathered at Arlington for a show in the park. We set up in the gazebo, which made for a nice show. They had their fishing derby and community gathering that day with a good crowd of appreciative listeners. Again the weather was nice. I played the National Anthem, then I played first fol-lowed by: Denny Evans of Pendleton, OR Julia Milleson of Milton-Freewater, OR Mark Ludwick of Umatilla, OR Bill West of Heppner, OR Jay Tracy of Hermiston, OR Vic Fusselman of Milton-Freewater, OR Joan Gray of Hermiston, OR Emily Krager of White Salmon, WA Denny Langford of Union, OR Fern Burton of Arlington, OR Jim Mundy of Arlington, OR (back up only) Mark Ludwick did the closing hymn. This show turned out real well with a kind of relaxed atmos-phere. Thanks for the help everyone. June 8, I drove to Enterprise for the show, which turned out fine. After the show I headed home, got tired over by Ukiah so stopped awhile, then got home in time for breakfast. Crazy ain’t I? Been trying to get my mowing done but the old mower keeps breaking down. Helped the neighbor move cattle last weekend; makes for a break in the rat race. I just talked to Nadine Morris. She said her hand is now cancer free and on the mend. They are doing well for a couple of old people. It’s raining this morning so I’m getting this done while I can’t mow. Till next time, Bob and Judy Stevens The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from some-body else.

But the biggest thank you of all goes to all the musicians that came to play and put on A TERRIFIC SHOW. Pat Samples

Editor’s Bulletin Board I stayed six days and five nights at Stickerville (Weiser) and heard a lot of great music jams. I’m not a night owl so I’m sure I missed quite a bit. There were several groups who played all night. I usually put away my fiddle when it is dark, but several nights I played by camp lanterns. One day Paul Baker, an excellent fiddler, and I were discussing skills such as vibrato. He remarked,

“Difficulty is a measure of desire.” Paul said it was his original quote. I got his permission to put it in the Rosin Dust.

Something I did not expect to see in Stickerville was a piano (see photo). Without a doubt the platform with large heavy duty casters facilitate moving the piano. I did not inquire, but I suspect that removal of the usual decorative panels was to reduce weight to make transport easier. When I took the photo I didn’t notice the tuning wrench. Somebody really wanted to have a piano while camping.

This photo above is in Maui in early February.
