RO~Our speaker will be Cindy Parry. Cindy is a quilt artist

and has made a series of quilts based on the Japanese

tsunami from a few years ago. Her story and quilts are

quite moving. This program has been presented at

JCCc.

CDM-CO

In April, Kim Melton will be presenting "Jo's Little Women."

Read more about Kim below in her bio written by her.

Kimberly Arthur-Melton - I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and attended Iowa State University where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Art with my emphasis in textiles.

My first sewing adventure was a wool crewel work bell pull on linen that my sister gave me when I was 11. I taughtmyself all of the stitches and completed the piece. It hangs in my mothers' home today. I started quilting in highschool working with the church sewing group in the summer. In college I designed and screen printed blocks andset them into a quilt for one of my art classes. My first quilting class was a Georgia Bonesteel style quilting class,"quilt as you go" (never finished) - and Yes! All of this was before the rotary cutter!

Along the way I designed, pieced and embroidered a quilt for my church centennial and later I was commissionedto create a pieced and appliqued quilt by the Iowa Department of culture for the Iowa State Fair.

Coming to Kansas City, I joined the Harper's Fabrics staff, wearing many hats over the years, most recently as service technician for the Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff sewing machines.

Which brings me to Jo's Little Women Club. I have been involved with it since 2006, first contributing, then as a coleader and more recently, leader. Working with the small scale has improved my skills and even very ated blocksare less intimidating.

Besides sewing and quilting I enjoy collecting glass paperweights, (I have close to 100), history, travel and time withfamily and of course my quilting friends.

The Charity Report

ANOTHER CHARITY SEW DAY

Over 60 brave folks came to the February sew day.Yes,there were fears of ice andsnow, but it didn't happen. It looked to me like everyone was having a great time anda lot was accomplished. I don't have a count for you as Chris Pease took everythinghome with her. (Yes,everything!)

I never thought about giving myself a title, but being dubbed the Charity Quilt Queenby Jo Anna Gorthy sounded pretty neat. With a title like that I obviously have had aninvisible crown which I am pleased to be passing on to Chris.

So on my way out the door I want to thank everyone of you for your supportthrough the years. We've made lots and lots of quilts - quilts that we can be proud of.I'm sure there are many people in our community who have cherished them. It's beena lot of fun and a lot more hard work.

It will be nice to reclaim my home. I will have to tell you, however, I'm already feelinga little bit of charity withdrawal. ....

Janette Sheldon

Thanks Chris for taking on the challenge! We all standtogether to support you.

Thank you Janette -from all of the members ofthe guild - for yourdedication and hard workwith the charity quilts.

You've left some BIG shoes to fill.

The best way for the guild members to communicate with the group as a whole is by using our Yahoo Group: blueval

leyquiltersguild. This is a closed group, and you need to be a member of the guild to receive emails posted in the Yahoo

Group.

How often you receive group emails is a setting you can change to meet your personal preference.

On the left side of the page, look for the link "Manage My Groups." Click on that link, and you should see

"bluevalleyquiltersguild." If you click on drop down menu under the heading "Mail Subscription," there are some options

on how you'd like to receive the group's messages.

Individual Emails No Email Special Notices Daily Digest

Keep in mind if you choose any option other than "Individual Emails" any time sensitive messages may be received too

late for you to take action. "Daily Digest" will provide you with a summary of all messages posted the previous day. If

you aren't a member of the Yahoo Group, and would like to be added, contact Dee Sopinski.

I need mUl"eI"eci pes!!!

Crock Pot Tomato SoupBrought by Joan Horton, to the Charity Sew Day lunch.

• 2 Tablespoons butter • % cup shredded parmesan cheese, this is the real

1 onion, chopped stuff, not the stuff from a can•• % cup asiago cheese, shredded or use an Italian• 3 cloves garlic, minced cheese blend

• 8 cups of chicken broth or stock % teaspoon salt or to taste•• 4- 14 ounce cans of tomatoes pepper•• 3 Tsps each Basil and Thyme

1. In a skillet or pan heat oil and add onion. Reduce temperature and cook onions, stirring often until lightlybrowned and caramelized. This takes about 10-15 minutes.

2. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.

3. Place onion mixture in crock pot.

4. Add broth and tomatoes, basil and thyme. Cook on low for 2-3 three hours.

5. Carefully puree the mixture in a blender or use an immersion blender. (I prefer the immersion blender, because hot liquid and blenders do not always mix well.) If using a blender pour back in crock pot after it ispureed.

6. Add salt and pepper to taste.

7. Add cheese and stir until melted.

8. Leave in crock pot on low or warm until serving.

9. Serve with more cheese sprinkled on top if desired.
