Past President’s Corner
Reflections from Ken Pierce, ACC President, 1986:
“The club was financially strong. We had a waiting list for members. The head count in the main dining room was quite good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At lunch, the Crystal Room on the second floor was also used.”
“Our chef, the renowned Hartmut Handke, resigned to take an executive position with the Greenbrier.”
Carla Sokol President
Club Governance
Community. It’s one word that is continuously mentioned when describing our club. A social environment, friendly staff, and engaging membership comprise our community. Go one step further and we bring those together with even more common interests through social events, leagues, clubs within the Club and club governance. Have you ever thought about joining one of our committees but wasn’t sure how?
Here are the basics…
•8 committees: Admissions, Associates, Athletics, Facilities, Finance, House, Membership, Women’s•Terms are 3 years, beginning in March•Meetings occur once per month•All meetings include a light meal•Club governance orientation – NEW in 2018!
Come unleash your inner passion for the Club and meet new people, lend expertise, create events, and rally members. Applications are being accepted now until December 31st and are available in the Membership office.
To join, refer to the website (www.accolumbus.com) and/or contact the Board liaison or Mary Alvarado [email protected] in the Management office. Be a part of club governance. It’s a gratifying and invaluable experience.
Do you have a special story you’d like to
share?
Perhaps you’d like to share a favorite ACC
memory, or you may have news to share about your children, family, or recent travels around the globe.
We’d love to hear from you!
Please send your story to Clubhouse Manager

Renovation Update
We’re getting close enough to start the count down. A mere 4 weeks before the membership will begin to experience the long anticipated first-floor spaces. At posting of this letter, there remains a few installations that need confirmation before we announce hard opening dates, but they are coming soon!
Barring any surprises, merrymakers will have the new Carmichael’s Bar and Lounge, as well as the Café ready for Martinis and Mistletoe on December 14th. After the new bar, lounge, and café spaces start operating, the existing Carmichael’s space will close and be transformed into casual and formal dining.
Alongside the progress in construction, club committees are updating our House Rules. Matters related to hours of operation, dress code, and use of phones and laptops
are the main topics. The House Committee and Board of Director’s approach to updating House Rules has been to seek points of view from diverse constituencies within the club’s committees, focus groups, as well as the general membership. The recent membership survey, for example, reveals that 70% of members would like to keep the level of formality “at its current level.” While the remaining 30% are equally split on making the club either ‘more formal’ or ‘less formal.’ The challenge the House Committee is meeting is to preserve the prevailing, but often contradictory, ways that members wish to use their club. The club is at once a natural part of a fitness routine and welcomes the casual dress that it implies, as well as a special environment for professional meetings and dining that call for more traditional formality.
Rest assured that the club committees are coming to sensible conclusions that will be mindful of 100% of the membership. Upon finalization of the new House Rules, the club will inform you through the standard avenues of club communication: emails, with links to the website, and Blue Wings notices.

Ambassador All-StarsThank you to all of our members who have stepped up to the plate in welcoming new members to the ACC! The “job” of a Blue Wing Ambassador is to meetup with a new member, answer questions, and to help the new member navigate the busy waters of the Club. So many of our new members enjoy getting to know current members right off the bat, which facilitates involvement in the club sooner rather than later!
Thank you to our latest Blue Wing Ambassadors “All Stars!”
