What is this document?
In an extension to what was called the bluebook over the past few years, we have gone leaps and
bounds ahead compiling feedbacks of whopping 112 companies taken over all the departments,
direct from the horse‟s mouth, a tedious work that took around a month to finish. No more a
„blue‟ book as such, we have few additional volumes from the last year that talk about the jobs in
various sectors [FMCG, Finance, Core etc.] which are available with this book.
Though we haven‟t tried any of those fancy designs for the book, sticking to simplicity essentially,
we hope our work helps you in some or the other way!
Please Note:
The bluebook is entirely based on the feedback obtained from the fellow seniors over the
past two years. They do not, in any way, represent views of Placement Office, IIT Madras
The style of feedback varies with the company. Some may have a 1st person feedback
while it may not be the case with others
The book has feedback of some of the companies that did not come last year but came
the year before that.
The description for the company is just for a general background. We refer you to the
website of each company to get the detailed information
Though we have been very alert in compiling the work, there still might be some glitches
in the book [owing to the gigantic no. of companies]. We request you to please contact
any of the team members to suggest any major changes in the book.

Electrical, Metallurgical and Materials | MS – Electrical, Engineering Design
Selection Procedure: Resume based shortlist
Interview - 2 rounds: 45 min + 30 min (HR)
Useful Courses - All automotive related courses- Strength of materials, Vehicle Dynamics, Engines,
Stress Theories, Finite element analysis.
Interview: Rigorous questions on courses mentioned in the resume.
HR round has standard HR questions. Their HR interview was just a filter to see if the guys that
qualified the technical round were whole hearted about getting into the company. Questions like
why GM, why not other auto companies, tell me why you suit the job etc.
General Tips - When given the opportunity to ask questions, get to know about the company
profile and what will be the candidate‟s role if selected. If you are looking just at core, then give
the tech interview more importance. You should have a solid course or project that you can
elaborate about to make an impression.
Preparation:
Start early around mid-September. Structure the preparation. Make clear demarcation between
core and non-core preparation, follow the time table strictly. Keep track aspects
covered/uncovered. (prep for tech, HR, aptitude, GD etc).It is easy to lose track of all this stuff. List
down core companies you want to get in, make a check on the relevant courses/projects and
make resume accordingly. If you fall short of time, revising the courses you are most interested/
your best projects is more helpful than doing over the basic 1st year courses. A vital quality to a
placement aspirant would be a relaxed state of mind. The last thing an employer would want is his
employee succumbing to stress.

Duals & M.Techs (PGET profile) could sit for the GD directly
Written test based on Core and Quant

and the way one leads/mingles with the group
You need not speak throughout the GD. You should make certain good points and

should be able to direct the discussion without actually commanding it
Logical points, teamwork, quality, and fluency of speaking are qualities looked for
After the GD (for people who clear it), there might be a personality assessment test, but it
was not an elimination round. They give a set of 50 words and ask to select the most
appropriate words that you want to see in others. And the same set of words are given
again and you have to select which of them are relevant to you
One interview: (Tech. + HR) (15-20 minutes)
Be ready for questions from Strength of Materials, IC engines, etc. ; especially numbers(
say the Ultimate tensile strength of mild steel); for PGET it‟s more about the project
Projects, future aspirations in the company, basic questions on automobiles are common
topics discussed in interviews
Again numbers are important, questions like, what the typical value of ignition delay is,
defining ignition delay for CI/SI engine are common
