As you are aware, each week in between newsletters I have been sending out “The Weekly Bulletin”. I am hoping that this is working for families, so please feel free to jot a few lines and give some feedback about this new structure, and also our Flexi Buzz reminders and classroom systems of communication too. The staff and I appreciate that families have very busy lives, so if we can make the communication channels clearer for everyone concerned, I think this helps. Last week it was great to see many families stay for our Harmony Day Breakfast, and official opening of the Harmony Garden and seat area. Thankyou to Mr Ian Roberts for 12 months ago donating the plants that have now grown into shrubs, and unveiling the new seat, that Emily and students have been developing within the Harmony Garden area. It is inter- esting that the theme for Harmony Day was “Everyone Belongs”, and I think this is very true of our school community. I am always delighted at how the students at this school work, learn and grow as friends together. I know it is only first term but our attendance rate overall has increased this year to 95%, so this is excellent news. Just a reminder that if your child is away for family or sickness please notify us through Flexi Buzz, telephone or your child’s diary. Many thanks to Tricia Spurling for organising Orienteering this week for our students. The school has been given some wonderful maps, and resources that our students can continue to use and learn about Orienteering, with hopefully the future opportunity of being able to compete in other activities. Once again our students have shone, as I was told by our Orienteering facilitators that it was a pleasure for them to work in this school as the stu- dents were all delightful. Well done everyone, the staff and I are so proud of you all. Buddy reading is a really valuable time for Junior Primary children. It allows the children to read, and to practise words to help with reading texts. For the older children, it helps them to develop fluency and ex-

pression when reading aloud.

Great designing and making in the STEAM area this week! Fish and crabs, fishing rods and crab nets! A fishing shop was also set up!

Reading for pleasure in our egg chairs.

We have rotations for reading groups and this is a favourite!

We had a visit from the RAA to talk about road safety. The children listened careful-ly because when we go to camp we will be crossing lots of very busy roads.

It is recommended that children remain in a booster seat until they reach 145 cm. We have a measurement chart in our classroom to check. We all still need a booster seat!!

In Visual Arts, we have been blending colours and looking at silhouette art. We have had fun joining the two together.

We really enjoyed Orienteering this week. We thought we were doing

Maths, PE, reading and listening and speaking. We were cooperating with

each other.

Middle Primary

Art We have furthered our circle work and have been exploring mandalas. We began using a printed template to help us practise getting our symmetry correct, before moving on to creating one from scratch using a ruler, protractor and compass. “Art washes away from the soul

the dust of every day life”

Our school Harmony Garden!

Mrs. Pyrke’s Year 2/3/4 class

Harmony Day Last Wednesday we celebrated Harmony Day as a whole school. The day started with a lovely breakfast of bacon and eggs, followed by the official unveiling of the Harmony Garden and finally the “Wheels in Harmony” riding of bikes and a team game. It was great to see so many parents join us as we celebrated Harmony Day together.

Until next newsletter, cheers from the MP class!!

Maths In Maths, we have continued to work on ‘number’, looking at addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as rounding, sequencing, number sentences and mon-ey (including correctly counting out change).

Literacy We have been practising our persuasive writing in re-cent weeks. In fact, I believe some of you may have had your children read a certain piece to you, trying to convince you of something!! Our spelling work continues with our weekly spelling contracts, as well as reading groups & handwriting lessons.

Year 5/6 Class News

Hi Families! In the past three weeks we have par-ticipated in some enriching whole school activities. Harmony Day last week was a wonderful experience – thank you to our leadership team who supported Emily with the family breakfast. After recess we attended the RAA Road Safety Session, and this was a great reminder of the importance of being aware of our surroundings wherever we are.

The Port Power visit was another special experi-ence. The players were informative and friendly, and our students asked some extremely thoughtful ques-tions. Dylan, Macca, Sam, Sorayah and Will, our School Captains and Sports Captains, even got to go out and have a go at marking some pretty big kicks! It was interesting to hear the players discuss the importance of sleep as part of a healthy lifestyle!

Last Thursday, the Year 6 students travelled to Adelaide

to attend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference. GRIP is an acronym standing for Generosity, Responsibility, Integ-rity, People. The conference was highly engaging, interac-tive and thought-provoking, and covered the topics of Devel-oping Myself to Lead, Making a Difference to My Team, Making a Difference to my School, and Making a Differ-ence to Society. Our little Blyth bunch represented the school with immaculate behaviour, and Mrs Pyrke and I were extremely proud, as usual!

That’s all for now! Kate

Pastoral Care Corner Week 9 Term 1

Thank you to everyone who participated in the school Harmony Day breakfast. We had a great turn out. Special

thanks to Wayne Lee and Craig Lloyd for cooking the bacon and eggs, they were scrumptious, Trish Lloyd for moni-

toring the drinks table and the families that donated eggs. This allowed students to share in breakfast with their

parents. Our celebration continued in the garden where our special guest Ian Roberts spoke about the meaning of

harmony and working together as a community, before he kindly unveiled our restored garden bench. Children then

participated in sharing their thoughts with a community member of what harmony meant to them. Then they plant-

ed their “Fishing for Harmony Rods” in the garden. We thank Ian for his kind donation of plants that he supplied us

with last year.

I checked on the Harmony Garden this past Monday, due to the big winds we were having. I can say it was a marvel-

ous sight, seeing all those harmony rods twirling in the breeze. Especially the rods that were planted in the old tree

stump. This space now looks loved and cared for. I hope you all get a chance to take a moment to sit down and relax

one day. The Harmony festivities finished with the children “Riding in Harmony” on their bikes or scooters around

the school. A day filled with much fun, joy and love!

Cheerio, Emily

PE & Health News

On Tuesday, the 12th of March seven brave girls headed to Clare for their first taste of AFLW (footy for girls) and by all re-ports had a lot of fun. Two girls from Spalding joined our team and joined in the fun! Well done girls for stepping outside of your comfort zone!

Congratulations to

Sorayah for making the Hub tennis day team. She won 4 out of 6 matches on the day.
