ELASTOMERIC (RUBBER) CABLES
There are various types of compounds according to the grades and properties as per IS:6380 such as general purpose, heat resisting and high temperature insulation. The elastomeric cables are suitable for use where the combination ofambient temperature and temperature-rise due to load remains stable up to the following limits in conductors.
Elastomeric compounds for insulating and sheathing of cables are formulated to meet the requirement of IS : 6380, BS6899, IEC 60502 and other international specification.
GENERAL CONSTRUCTION OF RUBBER CABLE {as per IS 9968 (Part I)}/1988
Conductor - Annealed tinned Copper conductors Solid (Class I), Stranded (Class 2),flexible (Class 5) complying with the requirement of IS 8130-1984.
Separator Tape - A polyester (Melinex) tape to be applied over the conductor.
Insulation - General service elastomer type IE1 of IS 6380-1984Heat Resisting insulation Type IE2 & IE3 of IS 6380-1984Silicone Rubber Insulation Type IE5 of IS : 6380-1984
Core Identification - The cores are identified either by colours or by numbers as per following table.
Elastomer (Rubber) is an insulating material with high dielectric strength having a decent property of flexibility. Theelastomeric cables are suitable for applications in electric iron leads, reeling-unreeling application in mining, heater leads, elevators, cranes and other high dielectric and flexible applications. The BMI Cables are manufactures wire & cables toIS 9968 (Part-1)/1988, IS 14494 & IS 9857/1990 for welding cables.

(As per IS : 9968/Pt -II/81 & IS : 14494/98)
Why "BMI" cables are better?1. High current carrying capacity due to low conductor resistance.2. High insulation resistance.3. Small bending radius.4. Long service life.5. Good Ageing characteristics.6. Heat resisting, Oil resisting & Flame retardent property.7. Ozone resistant.8. Extra flesibility due to super annealed copper wire & good
elasticity of compound.9. Excellent mechanical features of the insulation improves the
protection against external effects.10. Packing material suitable for handling.11. Fast delivery period for any cable.

SILICONE CABLES
Silicone rubber has excellent electrical properties and high thermal resistance. It allows conductor temperaturerating of 150C for continuous operation and 250C under emergency overload or short circuits continuity even infire because silicone rubber burns in to an insulating ash. It is resistant to moisture ozone radiation and chemicals.Being elastomeric in nature it is flexible and flexibility is retained over wide range of temperature. (-55c to 250c)
1. Specialities? High temperature operation? Excellent electrical properties? Moisture resistant? Long Service Life? Light weight? Flexibility over wide range of temperatures? Resistance to ozone and sunlight.
2. Application :? Airport lighting or other High Mast Lighting units. Extraction Plant? Aircrafts and Missiles High temperature metallurgical plants, Material
Handling Equipment? Blast Furnaces Machine Tools? Boiler Nuclear Power, Thermal Power Stations Blast Furnaces generator Printing Presses? Coke Ovens Steel Mills? Construction Equipment Ships? Driers Textile Machinery? EOT Crane Turbines? Electirc Furnaces
3. Construction :(A)Single Core Cable : Annealed tinned copper or aluminium conductor, insulated with silicone rubber and finally
fibre glass braided and varnished.(B) Multi Core Cable : Cores colour coded laid up and finally fibre glass braided and varnished or Asbestos braided.
Cables can also be supplied with other protective sheaths such as Silicone, Neoprene and CSP,or with braid screen or steel wire or strip armour.
Voltage Grade : Usually 1000 V/3300/6600/13800V.Size Range : Upto 630 sq.mm.Specifications : Generally to BS : 6360/BS6195, IEC 245-1, IS : 6380/IS : 9968

At present Copper and Aluminium welding cables are covered under IS : 9857-1990. The earlier IS : 434, covered only VIR covering.Whereas, the present specification covers Welding Cables under two categories.
1. Cable with General Purpose Rubber compound covering (GPR)2. Cable with Heat Resistant, Oil Resistant , Fire Retardant compound covering (HOFR).
Construction
(a) Conductor :(I) Copper Conductor : The conductor shall be composed of plain or tinned annealed high conductivity copper wired
complying with IS : 8130. The conductor formation shall be according to class 6 (Table 4) of IS : 8130.
(ii) Aluminium Conductor : The conductor shall be composed of Aluminium wires complying with IS : 8130. The conductorformation shall be according to Table 5 of IS : 8130.
(b) Separator :The separator shall be of polyester tape/dry paper, or any other suitable material. The conductor shall be covered with aseparator. The separator tape shall applied on conductor to give complete coverage to conductor.
(c) Covering : GPR/HOFRThe general purpose rubber compound shall comply with requirements of type SE1 to IS : 6380. The heat resistant normal dutyHeat Resistant, Oil Resistant , Fire Retardant (HOFR) compound covering compound shall comply with the requirement of TypeSE 3 to IS : 6380. The covering shall consist of one of the following applied over the conductor and separator.
(a) A layer of general purpose normal duty rubber compound.or
(b) A layer of Heat Resistant, Oil Resistant , Fire Retardant (HOFR) compound covering normal duty.
WELDING CABLES
*60C & 85C Class - The maximum conductor temperature attained for the duty cycles specified for the welding cables.*DC : Duty Cycle, GP : General Purpose Type, HOFR : Heat Resistant, Oil Resistant , Fire Retardant Type.
