Pi to 81 Places!
Leading up to World Pi day (14th March 2015 = 3.1415….) Pupils in the Maths dept. started learning the digits of pi. In the assembly on Friday 13th March 4 pupils a�empted to recite pi, 3 students did really well (approximately 24 decimal places) but one student went all the way to 81 decimal places. Well done to Lubhan!
Other Maths News
Some great Mathema�cs this term from the year 8's, they have worked on Data Handling learning how to complete a survey and use their data to make Pictograms, Bar charts and Sca�er graphs. All pupils are working towards Magic Maths Award presented each week in achievement assembly, Keep up the good work!
New Staff We welcome a new member of Staff, Lovelace Osei-‐Safo, to work with our Post-‐16 department and also with KS4 Mathema�cs.

Alison wins Jack Petchey Award!
Our cook Alison was recently nominated for the Jack Petchey Award and won. A statement by both Pupils and Staff praised Alison for her friendly nature, her willingness to help others and for her delicious food.
Well Done!
It has been another busy, enjoyable term at Bensham Manor School. Our 32 year 11s and several Post 16 students are preparing to move on. They have been involved in College Link courses and interviews.We wish them all well with their examina�ons and comple�ng coursework next term. We have had lots of offsite visits and ten year 10 are enjoying 5 days away from home on a farm in Wiltshire as I write. We are very proud to have been reassessed by Investors in Children and IQM this term. I'll put a link to their posi�ve reports on the website. I do hope you enjoy the news le�er and get a flavour of what is going on. Summer term commences on Monday 13 April. We are closed Monday 4 May Bank holiday and Thursday 7 May as school is a polling sta�on. Have a peaceful holiday.

A Fond Farewell
Sadly we say goodbye to Paula a�er nearly ten years service at Bensham.Her new job is just 5 minutes from home. We wish her well and thank her for all her hard work.

Residential Some of our Year 10s have taken a break from Bensham this term to spend some �me at Jamie’s Farm in Wiltshire. Whilst there, pupils took part in team building exercises as well as helping out on the farm. A few pupils even tried lambing. The trip was a great success and all of
the pupils enjoyed the experience.

School Council Congratula�ons to the school council for helping achieve the successful reassessment for Investors in Pupils award.
10BC 10BC completed their Edexcel unit on 'Healthy Living' through regular visits to the outdoor gym at Lloyd Park.
Reading is on the Up! Thanks to ini�a�ves across the school we are proud to say that reading levels across most of our pupils have increased significantly. A
special men�on goes to all the boys in 9FA who have increased their reading ages since
September 2015 ranging from 9 months -‐ 3 years 6 months!
Science and Engineering Day 2015 Another successful science and Engineering day planned by the science
department. A whole school event involving lots of different, exci�ng, hands on, innova�ve and fun ac�vi�es to engage students in science in all subject areas. The day started off with the solar eclipse, students experienced the change in light and temperature. They even tried out the solar eclipse glasses despite it being cloudy. Other events included making exploding volcanoes, large internal organ body collages and t-‐shirts, a drama�za�on of a heart transplant, exploding demonstra�ons and dry ice and colour workshops. There were lots of heated debates and discussions involving a ban on E cigare�es and the crea�on v evolu�on controversy. Students learnt about dinosaurs, played
circula�on and food chain board games, compared potato chips with
carrot chips, they made fruit and vegetables ba�eries, helicopters and brain hats. Students from a local primary school were invited to the event they enjoyed the workshops and science demonstra�ons. They thanked us for a warm welcome and an exci�ng day.
