GreenEarth Heritage Foundation, Inc. Philippines was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines on May 22, 2009. It is accredited by the Philippine Council for NGO Certification.

The multi-commodity processing facility rose on GreenEarth land in January 2014, and has since been the production site of the farm’s flagship product: organic moringa tea, which is certified by both United States and European organic certification agencies. Our gratitude goes out to our development partners – Department of Agriculture, Acer Philippines, Australian Embassy, and Maybank – for making this a reality.

    ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

Green Earth Heritage Foundation is a Christian organization whose mission is to preserve the environment, adhere to sound and sustainable agricultural practices and assist in alleviation of poverty through livelihood and community development. WE ARE CHRISTIAN

We acknowledge One God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In Jesus Christ alone we have the promise of salvation.

We seek to follow Jesus in His Teachings to nurture and protect all of God’s gifts, in His respect for the dignity of all men and women, in His call to love others as ourselves, and in His offer of abundant life to those who choose to follow Him.

    WE ARE STEWARDS

The resources at our disposal are not our own.

They are entrusted by God; therefore, we are committed to sound and sustainable agricultural practices that will preserved and protect the environment for the generations to come.

WE BELIEVE IN THE DIGNITY OF EVERY HUMAN BEING

We are committed to help our workers and beneficiaries fulfil their dreams through fair compensation, benefits and a housing plan right on GreenEarth’s land donation.

This VILLAGE OF HOPE will adhere to the principles of green design. The plan will be implemented through working partnerships with professionals as well as non-stock, nonprofit organizations that share our core values of fairness , ecology, health and Christ-centeredness.

WE PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH The Bible teaches that “the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19)”. We, therefore, have to make choices that will enhance wellness and prevent disease.

    About the Foundation

  • 4

Agrarian unrest has been a hallmark of Central Luzon’s history for over 60 years now. It is the cradle of the Hukbalahap movement which metamorphosed into the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army.

Thus, the manifestation of idle yet fertile land has been the basis of socio-economic conflict as seen in pleasant unrest and the unequal distr ibution of wealth experienced by our nation.

This is the social backdrop of our fledging Foundation’s mission. Nestled in the Foothills of the majestic Sierra Madre mountain range in historic San Miguel, Bulacan are over 100 hectares of bucolic hills. These were donated to GreenEarth Heritage Foundation by a generous land-owner in early 2009.

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.”

    Psalm 24:1

The Land was purchased roughly 40 years ago with the landowner’s dream of developing a viable agricultural endeavour. However, as is often said, “work got in the way,” and the land was left idle, susceptible to both fraudulent transactions and illegal squatting. Its lush potential was never achieved.

Hence, the decision to cede the raw Garden of Eden to our foundation to ensure its viable promise for beneficiaries without the taint of potential profiteering and the past mistake of non-use.

Over 139 families live in the foundation’s immediate vicinity, mostly in abject poverty. An overwhelming majority of the residents have only attained an elementary level of education and 48 percent of the population are below 20 years old.

GreenEarth’s mission is to assist in poverty alleviation by providing livelihoods centered in organic agriculture and by empowering communities through spiritual transformation in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We believe that it is through a personal relationship with Christ alone that we will be able to bring hope, change and a bright future to the people of the community that we serve.

To our dear Stakeholders, Patrons and Partners, October 11, 2013 is a date which will always be remembered by our staff and farmer-beneficiaries at GreenEarth. It is the date Typhoon Santi unleashed its fury and onslaught on the entire farm and its hapless residents. All ten of our greenhouses were destroyed or rendered useless. Most of our staff homes were uprooted and carried away by the raging flood borne about by the denuded forests of the Sierra Madre mountains. Our people’s meager belongings were likewise washed away during the height of the raging storm. Our crops, seedlings of fruit bearing trees and hundreds of our heritage mango trees were uprooted by the howling winds. The day after the disaster struck, we visited the area and it seemed like a nuclear bomb was dropped annihilating the site as evidenced by the massive devastation and chaos created. Despite all this, a genuine miracle occurred. Not a single life was lost and the determination and stamina of our people to rebuild is stronger than ever. Their resilience and faith in the Almighty never wavered. Fast forward, 9 months later, we are experiencing a new dawn at GreenEarth as we celebrate our 5th year in operation. Produce sales are up by 30%. The profile of our flagship organic Moringa tea is heightened by the strong support and endorsement of renowned food purveyors The Blue Kitchen Group who carry our USDA and Ecocert-certified Moringa tea packs in their upscale stores at Rockwell’s Power Plant Mall and the Shangri-La Mall in Pasig, respectively. More offices and organizations are now open to having Moringa tea stations in their offices as an alternative source of sustainable healthy beverages such as computer market leader Acer Philippines. On the people front, we continue to be encouraged by seeing God’s hand being revealed in the acceptance of our Grade 6 sponsored child and farmer’s daughter Dea Mae Presas into Victory Christian International School (VCIS). She has been made a full-scholar of this full gospel and cutting edge educational institution. As a result of her exemplary stint, VCIS has likewise accepted 2 more GreenEarth farmers’ children into their loving fold as full time scholars, too. These are Fryan Viudez and Justine Silverio, respectively. Together with Dea Mae, they are now full-fledged Grade 7 scholars at VCIS. Truly a blessing to both these kids and their parents since a highly sought-after VCIS education is way beyond our farmers’ capacity. We are confident that these anointed kids will be role models to our farming community and its constituencies. Moreover, this is just another mighty testimony of the Lord’s divine hand in providing a better tomorrow to our indigent farmer-beneficiary families. We remain steadfast in our faith and dream to Transform Land and Transform Lives through our GreenEarth mission. We continue to bear witness of God’s plan and resolution in developing GreenEarth albeit not in a conventionally easy manner but in a faith-building pattern whereby our faith and will are both tested. Thus, making us stronger, wiser and more convinced that we have to carry on with our mission of making this small patch of green earth a truly better place we can call our home. Thank you for your unwavering support, sustainable engagement and collaborative partnership in seeing GreenEarth through in the years to come. God bless you and keep you always! Sincerely, James and Mylene Matti

The year 2013 witnessed a massive devastation on GreenEarth land when Typhoon Santi pounded on Central Luzon in October, ruining everything that lay on its path. At the GreenEarth farm all 10 greenhouses collapsed as did the farmers’ sleeping huts and the frontage creek bridge – the farm’s last layer of defense against rampaging floodwaters, which eventually wiped out more than half of GreenEarth’s open plantations of high-value crops.

But while there had been destruction, the fiscal year also bore witness to remarkable developments, foremost among which, is the completion in January 2014 of the 150-square meter Multi-Commodity Processing Facility complete with food processing equipment. The timing could not have been better as the month before that – December 2013 – GreenEarth’smoringa plantation, in addition to its United States Department of Agriculture certification obtained in June 2012, received yet another organic certification, this time from the European agency, Ecocert. Beginning January of 2014, hundreds upon hundreds of kilograms of moringa leaves had been processed into tea in this facility.

GreenEarth’s organic moringa tea gains PROMOTIONAL and MARKETING support

Promotion and marketing of GreenEarth’s organic moringa tea reached new heights in 2013 owing to the support and confidence demonstrated by GreenEarth’s partners. For the first time, GreenEarth’s organic moringa tea was made available to retail customers in August 2013 as The Blue Kitchen, a food shop specializing in artisanal home-made Philippine regional specialties and international foods with branches at the Rockwell Power Plant and Edsa Shangri-la malls, began to carry the product at their aforementioned mall outlet with no additional mark-up cost, and with 100 percent of the profits going back to GreenEarth.

In September 2013, ACER Philippines launched a moringa tea drinking station right at their Philippine corporate headquarters in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, thereby including in the company’s wellness program the provision, for their employees, good quality health drinks for free. “By drinking a cup of moringa tea from GreenEarth, you not only promote good health, you also help the farmers improve their lives and help with the reforestation of their community,” said Jennifer Teng-Chua, the company’s Finance and Administration Director.

GreenEarth’s organic moringa tea is indeed poised to take on both domestic and global demand. In February 2014, GreenEarth unveiled a new packaging designed to both interest customers as well as inform them succinctly of the health benefits of moringa in general, and of the organic certifications – USDA and Ecocert – of GreenEarth’s moringa tea in particular.

The work of cultivating the land to usher a return to its natural glorious state, and so it may be a sustainable source of food and livelihood for the people nurturing it, continued at GreenEarth. Recognizing GreenEarth’s work in agriculture and its mission to alleviate lives of farming communities, the Philippine Department of Agriculture accredited GreenEarth as a partner in development in 2013. Funding and technical assistance for many areas of GreenEarth’s agricultural work has since started pouring in, including assistance for the construction of two small farm water reservoirs. One Meralco Foundation approved GreenEarth’s grant request for two more solar-powered submersible water pump systems.

Volunteers and young students from ACER Philippines, Bulacan Polytechnic Institute-Malolos, and the International School Manila shared with the land and community their precious time and energies at tree planting activities held in August and November 2013 and March 2014, respectively.

Mylin, Angel and Inna are all certified public accountants. They all graduated cum laude from their respective accounting schools. They presently work as associate auditors at one of the biggest multi-disciplinary professional services in the country. Perhaps it was the long hours working on numbers and in front of a computer that had made them look for something interactive to spend their non-working hours on. And they found GreenEarth – where else, but on the internet!

In August 2013 they began burning their weekend hours working to improve GreenEarth’s computer curriculum. Having graduated from a computer high school, Mylin knew exactly what computer functions the kids needed to master. To enable GreenEarth staff to effectively teach computer to children, these three ladies created graphic multi-media containing a series of easy-to-follow lectures. They also created online quizzes on a free website account, which the children were to take after each lecture. This brilliant tool has enabled GreenEarth to gauge and monitor each student’s level of computer knowledge and skill and therefore, able to intervene where it is most needed.

These wonderful ladies did everything at their own cost and cheerfully sacrificed their time and safety crossing the bridgeless river and unpaved roads each time they came, to make a difference in our children’s lives.

We have no doubt that your efforts will yield great fruit. May the GreenEarth children, the legacy of your love and hard work, make you proud one day!

Kids get to answer the question of their volunteer teacher’s lectures.

Live didactics and handholding is so needed by our under-served kids.

Everyone has to pass muster of “keyboarding audit before proceeding to more computer lessons” from our SGV auditors-turned-volunteer literacy teachers on Saturdays, starting with the highschoolers, on the proper keyboarding technique.

Pensive looks: Being introduced for the first time to the children of GreenEarth.

“These wonderful ladies are Godsends. They traveled very far to help you all learn computers and English. Make the most of God’s blessing, kids of GreenEarth.”

The basics need to be clearly understood.

The children of GreenEarth continued to receive blessings through generous benefactors intent on helping them secure a brighter future – and quite literally, too. Just right in time for the opening of classes in June, One Renewable Inc., a renewable energy company, and a number of our kind individual donors, donated solar-powered desk lamps to our GreenEarth children. With or without on-grid electricity, the children will now be able to read and study their lessons well into the night.

    BRIGHTER and DRIER!

The over 2,000 books that keep the children’s minds bright and alive found their home in the new eight (8) rolling steel book trucks which had found their way to our farm through the generous assistance of the Metrobank Foundation.

  • 22

In August 2013, young people from the Rotaract Club of Manila Metro braved the monsoon and the knee-high waters of the river to get to GreenEarth to bring smiles to the children’s faces. Project Smile in a Box aimed to bring a smile to every child through simple things like toys, clothes, slippers, raincoats and umbrella. To 100 children of GreenEarth they gave raincoats – particularly helpful for these children who walk up to three hours each day to get to school.

The year 2012 had been an amazing year of journey, test of faith and triumphs, and remarkable personal and spiritual transformation for Romnick. From studying at a public high school in a rural town in Bulacan, he, against all odds and through the love and support of many people and God’s amazing grace, managed to get into the prestigious International School of Manila upon winning a 5-year full tuition scholarship.

The tests and preparations that he had to go through had not been easy even for this young boy – the seventh out of a brood of nine boys – who has been used to hardship all his life. The battery of tests and interviews had required of him a remarkable mental fortitude and strength in spirit. But his will was strong and so was his faith. And so it came to pass that our farmer’s son was set to walk the halls of the International School of Manila, just over a year after honing his numeracy and English literacy skills at our Library and Learning Center. He, together with 4 others, was awarded a full scholarship.

Upon entering his first year at ISM as a Grade 8th student, Romnick qualified into the Track and Field team and won 5 medals in inter-school meets.

In June 2013, Romnick marked the end of the first year of a most amazing journey. And it was a testament that while he had left the village and its concomitant difficulties, he had never really forgotten where he came from. At the school’s moving on ceremony, Romnick, along with another Filipino scholar, was recipient of a Service Award, an award given to students who displayed exemplary service and leadership during outreach activities in communities served by ISM.

Glory and honor to our Great God!

    Congratulations, Romnick!

    FEATURED GREENEARTH SCHOLAR

Since she was three years of age, our dear farmer’s child, Dea Mae has made up her mind that she would like to become a doctor someday. She cannot forget her grandmother, a farmer, always writhing in pain from backaches but could never afford to see doctors. She would like to serve her family and community as a physician one day.

Given how competitive and costly it has become to attain a medical degree, Dea needed a good educational foundation to give her that chance to enter medical school. The prayer for a good educational foundation was answered through one of GreenEarth’s partners in development – the Preppi School Foundation – who granted scholarships to several of our children. Keeping Dea and the other kids – her siblings in fact – at the Manila school where they were to obtain international education Montessori-style, was a handiwork of many – of the generous benefactors who provided them many of their basic needs, and of their parents who tirelessly brought them, week after week, organic vegetables from the GreenEarth farm for their nutrition. And it has all been worth it. Because of having to cope with their academics while managing their daily basic needs at the boarding house, Dea and her siblings have matured and become quite independent. They juggle the demands of academics with their regular Bible studies at school, and Sunday School at Christ Commission Fellowship.

In September 2013 another blessing poured that would help Dea attain that solid education foundation for a medical degree: an anonymous donor has pledged to sponsor Dea’s continuing education at the Victory Christian International School, where on September 09th she started school as a sixth-grader!

Victory Christian International School (VCIS-www.vcis.edu.ph) exists to provide high school and college preparatory education with an emphasis on Christian Character, Academic Excellence, and Leadership Development. The school seeks to educate children with a biblical worldview, integrating principles of faith to learning and life while recognizing each individual’s uniqueness.

At GreenEarth, we yearn not just to provide livelihoods for farmers but to actively assist their children achieve the highest and best quality education possible.

We dream BIG for our community because we serve a BIG GOD!

Making the most out of GreenEarth’s Learning Center. During her spare time, Justine enjoys studying and reading good books.

Justine just graduated valedictorian of her 6th grade class in provincial public school this year. Her father, a devastated rice farmer who lost everything in the aftermath of last year’s typhoons “begged” GreenEarth to take him in our livelihood program. In less than a year, he and his wife have earned more as organic farmers of GreenEarth without debt than their former life as rice farmers. Their three children have been beneficiaries of our Child Sponsorship Program and now their eldest daughter has been accepted as an international school scholar!

With her father during her graduation from 6th grade this past March 2014 from Rizal Elementary School at Natividad, Pangasinan Princess Justine was Class Valedictorian. She placed second in an inter-school contest cal led SciDAMATH. She was District Champion in DAMATH.

Fryan is a delightful, cheerful, well-man-nered boy who became a sponsored child of GreenEarth over 3 years ago. He is the youngest of 5 children of Flaviana, one of our most hard-working community volunteers and Roberto, a vegetable farmer and carpenter of GreenEarth.

Over two years ago, when Preppi School Foun-dation offered to take some of our children to Montessori-style boarding school in Manila, Fryan raised his hand vehemently and said “I would like to study in Manila even if no one else will come!”

He loves Math and is presently pushing to learn more (the boy dreams to be an engineer), has improved his English tremendously and has had zero complaints with regard to his conduct in two years of being in boarding school.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH VCIS FOR BELIEVING IN THE CHILDREN OF GREENEARTH.

  • 31

Intellicare, the Philippines’ leading HMO, blessed the GreenEarth Community with a full-day medical mission on April 5, 2014. Because of our unpaved roads and river without a bridge, sensitive X ray equipment couldn’t negotiate our bumpy roads to get to GreenEarth. We were graciously provided auspices by Sibul Elementary School for the entire day of medical services for our community.

We salute our growing list of child sponsors and individual donors whose faithful giving has kept the light of hope alive.

    Thank you very much.
