The North/South Library aims to create a bibliographic collection resultingfrom the scientific research carried out in the Southern hemisphere (theso-called ‘Third World’) in the area of the social sciences and humanities,which is on the whole little known in the countries of the North.

The library encompasses a wide thematic variety: indigenous peoples;anti-hegemonic struggles; identities and ethnicities; human rights andother principles of human dignity; economic, organisational andmanagerial matters; sustainable democratic development; alternativeknowledge and bio-diversity; alternatives to neo-liberal globalisation; socialjustice and social inclusion; feminist studies and gender issues; humansciences and literatures.

The Library currently holds ca. 12,000 monographs and 233 journalsubscriptions, from Europe (112), North and South America (92), Africa (17)and Ásia (12).

Application requirementsThe programme runs biennially, re-opening in 2009/2010.

1. The application deadline to enroll in the Programme is the 30th of June of 2009.

2. Holders of a BA or MA in Social or Human Sciences are invited to apply to enroll in the Programme.

3. The Scientific Council may accept applications from applicants holding a BA or MA from other areas of studies, whose curriculum shows appropriate basic preparation.

Selection Criteria • Applicants wishing to enroll in the Programme will be selected as per

the following criteria:

a) Academic and scientific curriculum;b) Professional experience;c) BA and/or MA grade;d) Submittal of a proposed research work plan (5 to 10 pages);e) Command of a foreign language (English);f) Interview (optional).

• The selection of the students for the 4th edition of this Programme will be announced until the 30th of September 2009.
