CAUTION: Technical and user documentation might differ depending on the region.

Click the document number for a particular Service document to open that document in the browser window. Searching for Service Documents Service documents can be searched in several ways:

• By keywords: Type any word or combination of words into the “Search” search box (for example, “approved adhesive” or “Bolhoff SPR Tool”) and click Apply to view a list of all documents that contain those words in either the document title or the document description.

• By document type: Type the two-character document type code (BR for Body Repair Tech Notes, SB for Service Bulletins, or TN for Tech Notes) into the “Search” search box and click Apply to view a list of all documents of that document type.

• By document number: Type a complete document number into the “Search” search box (for example, “BR-15-92-008”) and click Apply to view that document.

• By model: Click the arrow on the right side of the “Model” drop-down list, and then select the desired model (“Model S”, “Roadster”, etc.) or select “General” to display service documents that are not model specific.

• By vehicle system: Click the arrow on the right side of the “Vehicle System” drop-down list, and then select the desired model-specific vehicle system (for example, “Model S – 00 – INSPECTION & SERVICE”).

Note: Searches can include one or multiple search criteria. For example, to search for all Model S Body Repair Tech Notes, select “Model S” from the “Model” drop-down list, type “BR” into the “Search” search box, and then click Apply.

Sorting Service Documents To sort the display of service documents:

• Select an entry from the “Sort By” drop-down list and then click Apply to sort by date posted, document number, or document title

• Select an arrow from the “Order” drop-down list and then click Apply to switch between an ascending sort (the “up” arrow, with the lowest/oldest first or in alphabetical order) and a descending sort (the “down” arrow, with the highest/newest/ first or in reverse alphabetical order)

Figure 10

Procedures can be found in 3 different ways: • Navigating the menu tree of systems and subsystems • Searching by title keyword • Searching by flat rate time (FRT) code

NOTE: Once a procedure has been accessed, click Printer Friendly Version (Figure 11) to access a version that can be printed. The hyperlink for a Print Friendly Version can be emailed or used as a reference, as the standard web view does not contain the full link to the procedure.

1. Click Menu (Figure 11) to display the left menu tree, if it is not already enabled.

Figure 11

2. Click the “+” button for the appropriate system to expand to a list of related subsystems, and then click the “+” button for the appropriate subsystem to expand to a list of related procedures.

3. From the procedures that appear, click the link for the appropriate procedure.

4. If needed, click Printer Friendly Version on the right side to open the procedure in a new window in a format that can be printed or downloaded.

Figure 12

2. Enter a keyword or keywords in the Search box, and then click Search (to the right of the Search box, Figure 13) or press “enter”. For example, type “subframe” in the Search box to find the procedure to remove and install the front subframe.

The procedure opens in the pane on the right side of the screen (Figure 17).

Figure 17

6. If needed, click Printer Friendly Version to open the procedure in a new window in a format that can be printed or downloaded.

Searching a Service Manual by Flat Rate Time

NOTE: Searching by flat rate time (FRT) is the fastest and most accurate way to find a procedure. Follow the same steps in the “Searching by Keyword” procedure but enter the FRT number (for example, “16010101”). During the search, only the correct system, subsystem, and procedure appear, rather than multiple entries.

Searching the Parts Manual Click the image for the desired vehicle, and then click Parts Manual (or Parts Manuals for Model S) in the “SERVICE INFORMATION” section to open the Parts Manual for that vehicle (Figure 18, Model S shown as an example). NOTE: There are two parts manuals for Model S: one covering vehicles built through March 2016 and one covering vehicles built beginning in April 2016. Make sure to select the correct parts manual.

Figure 18

Parts entries can be found in 3 different ways: • By doing a keyword search • By doing a part number search • By navigating the content menu tree of systems and subsystems

NOTE: The quantity stated for a part in the “Qty” column is the number of times that the part is used within that specific section or subsection of the Parts Manual, not the quantity of parts included one order of that part number.

1. Click Search (Figure 19).

Figure 19

2. Enter a keyword or keywords in the Search box, and then click Search (to the right of the Search box, Figure 20) or press “enter”. For example, type “subframe” in the Search box to find the parts entries for the front subframe.

3. From the vehicle system and subsystems headings that appear, click the link for the appropriate system or subsystem (Figure 21). In this example, click the “Front Subframe – Dual Motor” subsystem link or click the “CHASSIS AND SUBFRAMES” system link and then click the appropriate “Front Subframe subsystem link (either for dual motor or rear wheel drive vehicle) in the right pane.

NOTE: System headings appear in all caps; subsystem headings appear in initial caps.

4. From the diagram and parts entries that appear, scroll until you find the appropriate parts entry (Figure 22).

NOTE: All examples of the search term appear highlighted.

Figure 22

Searching a Parts Manual by Part Number

NOTE: Searching by part number is the fastest and most accurate way to find a parts entry. Follow the same steps in the “Searching by Keyword” procedure but enter all or a portion (usually the 1st seven digits, which is the base part number) of the desired part number. All instances of the part number entered appear highlighted, including entries that refer to the selected part number (such as references in the “Comments” column). In most cases, use the parts entry where the highlighted part number appears in the “Part Number” column.

Searching a Parts Manual by Navigating the Content Menu Tree

NOTE: Searching for a parts entry by navigating the menu tree takes a bit of time, but can be useful because it displays only parts entries for the particular system and subsystem(s) selected. This can make it easier to pick the correct parts entry.

1. Click Content (Figure 23) to call up the complete left content menu tree, if it is not already enabled.

3. From the subsystem heading links that appear, click the link for the appropriate subsystem.

4. From the diagram and parts entries that appear, scroll to find the appropriate parts entry.
