Body systems
All living organisms need 4 things in
order to live
•Energy (plants, meat, sunlight)
•Energy (plants, meat, sunlight)
•Water

Excretory systemcleans the blood, expels waste through the urine
Excretory system
• 2 kidneys
• 2 ureters (urine tubes)
• 1 bladder
Cleans the blood, waste exits through urine
Circulatory system
• Heart• Blood vessels arteries (take blood away from heart)
veins (bring blood toward heart)
capillaries (connect arteries to veins)
Circulatory system
heart
• Breathing• collects oxygen (O2)
• releases carbon dioxide (CO2)
Respiratory systemRespiratory system
• 1 trachea
• 2 lungs
Respiratory system
The circulatory and respiratory systems work together. The
blood that returns to the heart
through the veins is depleted of
oxygen. First it is pumped
to the lungs.
Small sacs with thin walls allow gases to be transferred from the blood
Oxygen is taken in from the air as carbon dioxide is released
Fresh (oxygenated) blood returns to the heart to be pumped back out to the body
through the arteries.
