What is boiler ?A boiler is a closed vessel in which heat changes water, under pressure, into steam.There are two major types of boiler are as following:-Fire tube boiler 2. water tube boiler

Boiler basics principle

1st of all let us explain the boiler feed water which is boiled under pressure with the help of animated video.

1. Fire tube boilerA fire tube boiler consist of a large steel cylinder (shell) that consist a nest of small diameter steel tubes. Hot combustion gasses pass through the tubes and transfer heat to the water into the shell. Fire tube submerged in the water. Applications:-It is used for low pressure.It is used for low capacity.It is used in especially small plants.For steam ranges up to 25 T/hr. and 17.5 kg/cm^2 Merits:- Low capital cost and fuel efficient 82%.

2. Water tube boilerA water tube boiler differs from a fire tube boiler in the location of water and gas flow. The water circulates through the tubes and hot and combustion gasses flow through the furnace. The hot gasses contact the tubes and heat transfer to the water. The cross-sectional area of water tubes in much smaller than that of the shell of a fire tube boiler. Thus water tube boiler can handle higher steam pressures and temperatures than fire tube boiler.A fire tube boiler has some advantages over a water tube boiler of compressible steam capacity. It occupies less space, and is less costly to purchase and install. Fire tube boiler also have certain drawbacks. The shells have larger surface area limits steams temperature and pressure.Overall water tube boiler are safer, more efficient and more flexible than fire tube boilers. Water tube boilers respond more quickly to changes in steam demand and carry high overloads explosives are less likely in a water tube boiler pressure is exerted on small diameter tubes rather than on a large shell.

Applications:- For steam ranges 5.5-130 T/hr.It is used for power plants. Merits:-It is used as high capacity steam boilers. Demerits:- Efficient control system needed. Capital cost is high.
