SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, May 18, 2012.- Honduras defeated 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-20) in the first match at the NORCECA First Round 2014 Men´s World Championship Qualification Tournament Group G at Gymnasium Adolfo Pineda in San Salvador. The win could have gone either way as both teams fought until the end of each set and the score remained with a minimum distance. As the match developed, Honduras gained more

confidence blocking Panama´s attack and earning their first victory. Luis Salgado registered 20 points to contribute with the winners, while on Panama’s side, Edward Diaz was with no doubt their best scorer with an impressive 45 pointer. “We were definitely blessed, our unity was the key to make everything turn out in our favor; our blocking was effective and we still need to improve in defense”, said Luis Membreño captain of Honduras. While Ricardo Brown Panama’s captain, indicated “first I want to congratulate Honduras; our reception had deficiencies and Honduras’ blocking was too high for us”. Rony Martinez coach of Honduras was pleased with the result, “I want to thank God for this victory. It wasn’t an easy match, Panama has experienced players that were in command but we have been working hard in our blocking that today was an organized one.” “Our reception and defense failed, as of the lack of communication between our players; we weren’t able to play faster which is our strength. We were able to get closer in the score, but in the end it wasn’t enough” the words of Panama Coach, Marco Perez. Honduras bloquea a Panamá SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 18 de mayo, 2012.- Honduras derrotó 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-20) en el primer encuentro de la Primera Ronda Eliminatoria Masculina Grupo G de NORCECA rumbo al Campeonato Mundial Masculino 2014 en el Gimnasio Adolfo Pineda en San Salvador. El triunfo pudo ser para cualquiera ya que ambos equipos lucharon hasta el final de cada set manteniendo el marcador con poca diferencia. Conforme fue desarrollándose el encuentro, Honduras tomó más confianza al bloquear el ataque panameño y se anotó su primera victoria.

Luis Salgado registró 20 puntos que contribuyeron con los ganadores, mientras que por el lado de Panamá, Edward Díaz fue indiscutiblemente el mejor anotador con impresionantes 45 puntos. “Definitivamente fuimos bendecidos, nuestra unidad fue la clave para que todo saliera a nuestro favor; el bloqueo fue efectivo y aun debemos mejorar en defensa”, dijo Luis Membreño capitán de Honduras. En tanto, Ricardo Brown el capitán de Panamá, indicó “primero quiero felicitar a Honduras; nuestra recepción tuvo deficiencias y el bloqueo de Honduras fue muy alto para nosotros.” Rony Martínez el entrenador de Honduras se mostró complacido con el resultado, “quiero agradecer a Dios por la victoria. No fue un juego fácil, Panamá cuenta con jugadores de experiencia que tomaron el mando, pero nosotros hemos trabajado en nuestro bloqueo que hoy estuvo muy organizado.” “Nuestra recepción y defensa fallaron, así como la falta de comunicación entre nuestros jugadores; no pudimos jugar nuestro juego rápido que es nuestra mejor fortaleza. Nos acercamos en el marcador, pero al final no fue suficiente” las palabras del entrenador de Panamá, Marco Pérez.

Opening Ceremony at El Salvador World Qualifier

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, May 18, 2012.- The opening ceremony of the NORCECA First Round 2014 Men´s World Championship Qualification Tournament Group G was the appropriate moment for the official inauguration of a new Sport Court floor at El Salvador and also the recognition of two locals as FIVB International Referees. As part of NORCECA’s development program which includes a permanent support to its members, El Salvador received the donation of a new Sport Court surface for the Gymnasium Adolfo Pineda. Mrs. Marta Centeno de Sajche, AFECAVOL President, on behalf of the Confederation was in charge of the official

inauguration and the ribbon cutting, “on behalf of Cristobal Marte, NORCECA President and FIVB First Executive Vice President, I am honored to give this court to El Salvador Volleyball Federation to allow their athletes to practice and compete in better conditions.” Prof. Jose Ramon Perez Vento, NORCECA President Refereeing Commission and FIVB Refereeing Commission member, handed out the FIVB ID Card and FIVB Badge to local referees Bernabe Menjivar and Hector Rivas that certifies them as International Referees. The honor serve was made by Centeno de Sajche. The ceremony was attended by El Salvador sports authorities, Mayor of San Salvador and sponsors as special guests. Inauguración Eliminatoria Mundialista en El Salvador SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 18 de mayo, 2012.- La ceremonia de apertura de la Primera Ronda Eliminatoria NORCECA Masculina Grupo G rumbo al Campeonato Mundial 2014 fue la ocasión indicada para la inauguración de la nueva cancha Sport Court en El Salvador así como el reconocimiento a dos locales como árbitros internacionales de la FIVB. Como parte del programa de desarrollo de la NORCECA, que incluye el apoyo permanente a sus miembros, El Salvador recibió la donación de una nueva cancha Sport Court para el Gimnasio Adolfo Pineda. La Ing. Marta Centeno de Sajché, Presidente de AFECAVOL, en representación de la Confederación fue la encargada de la entrega oficial así como el corte del listón “en nombre de Cristóbal Marte, Presidente de NORCECA y Primer Vicepresidente Ejecutivo de la FIVB, tengo el honor de darle esta cancha a la Federación de Voleibol de El Salvador que permitirá a sus atletas la práctica y competencia en mejores condiciones”. El Prof. José Ramón Pérez Vento, Presidente de la Comisión de Arbitraje de la NORCECA y miembro de la Comisión de Arbitraje de la FIVB, entregó la Tarjeta Internacional de la FIVB y el emblema de la FIVB que certifica a Bernabé Menjivar y a Héctor Rivas de El Salvador, como Árbitros Internacionales. El saque de honor fue realizado por Centeno de Sajché. A la ceremonia asistieron como invitados especiales autoridades del deporte salvadoreño, el Alcalde de San Salvador y patrocinadores.

El Salvador had an effortless victory during their debut in the tournament. The straight sets lasted 53 minutes where the locals showed much more experience than Turks & Caicos as this is their first time ever in a NORCECA competition. Top players for El Salvador with double digits were Rodrigo Chavez with 17 points and Leonel Hernandez with 13. For Turks & Caicos, James Cuero scored 5 points. “I felt that we were unorganized because we have new players on the team but this was the opportunity for them to gain experience, we followed or coaches instructions. In the end the result was a good one” said Leonel Hernandez captain of El Salvador. Verwyn Jervis, Turks & Caicos captain was excited to participate, “this is a learning experience for all of us, we were nervous and it showed. We definitely need more practice but the whole team is happy to be here.” El Salvador coach, Juan Andres Leon from Cuba, said “this isn’t a match to measure the team’s performance; we know the teams to beat are Honduras and Panama, but it was a chance to be less nervous. The young players inserted will keep progressing in each match.” For Shinaaz “CJ” Edross, Canadian coach for Turks & Caicos, it was a warm welcoming as the crowd cheered also for them “I agree with Verwyn, we have much to learn and we failed in the passing because the players were nervous, it was very nice to see the crowd applaud our points.” El Salvador se apunta primera victoria SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, 18 de mayo, 2012.- El anfitrión, El Salvador, se apuntó su primera victoria de la Primera Ronda Eliminatoria Masculina Grupo G de NORCECA rumbo al Campeonato Mundial Masculino 2014 al vencer a Turcas & Caicos 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-). El Salvador obtuvo una victoria sin esfuerzo en su debut en el torneo. Los tres sets duraron 53 minutos en un juego en el que los locales mostraron más experiencia que Turcas & Caicos ya que esta es su primera ocasión en que participan en un campeonato de NORCECA. Lideraron El Salvador con doble dígitos, Rodrigo Chávez con 17 puntos y Leonel Hernández con 13. Para Turcas & Caicos, James Cuero con 5 puntos. “Siento que jugamos desordenados porque hay nuevos jugadores en el equipo pero esta era la oportunidad para que adquirieran experiencia, seguimos las instrucciones de nuestro entrenador. Al final, el resultado fue bueno” dijo Leonel Hernández el capitán de El Salvador.

Verwyn Jervis, capitán de Turcas & Caicos se mostró emocionado de participar, “esta es una experiencia para aprender, estábamos muy nerviosos y se notó. Definitivamente necesitamos entrenar más, pero el equipo completo está muy contento de estar acá.” El entrenador de El Salvador, el cubano Juan Andrés León dijo, “este no es un juego medidor de nuestro desempeño; sabemos que los rivales a vencer son Honduras y Panamá, pero era el momento para perder los nervios. Los jugadores jóvenes que insertamos irán progresando con cada encuentro.” Para Shinaaz “CJ” Edross, entrenadora canadiense para Turcas & Caicos, esta fue una bienvenida cálida al ser apoyados por el público “opino igual que Verwyn, tenemos mucho que aprender y fallamos en los pases porque el equipo estaba nervioso, fue muy agradable ver al público aplaudir los puntos que anotamos.”
