Un manglar es un ecosistema y este:- Se destaca por su producción de materia orgánica.- Promueve la biodiversidad (funciona como refugio para peces, mamíferos e invertebrados).- Asegura la sustentabilidad de la industria pesquera. - Alberga y provee áreas de anidaje a diferentes especies de aves residentes y migratorias. - Protege las costas contra la erosión.- Atrapa sedimento y hojarasca entre sus raíces.- Es importante para la educación e investigación científica, también es usado para la recreación y actividades turísticas.

A mangrove is an ecosystem that:- Produces organic material.- Promotes biodiversity (works as a refuge for fish, mammals, and invertebrates).- Ensures the sustainability of the fishing industry.- Provides nesting areas for different species of birds. - Protects coasts of erosion.- Traps sediments with their roots.- Important for education and scientific research, and also for recreation and tourist activities.

El manglar en el río Nosara y la zona en general, albergan a más de 270 especies de aves, 19 de ellas amenazados a nivel mundial.

The mangrove in Río Nosara and this area in general, holds more than 270 bird species, 19 of which are threatened worldwide.

Durante la construcción del dique en el Río Nosara se talaron los árboles de mangle, los cuales se encontraban en las orillas del río. Este tipo de árbol es vital para la conservación de los ecosistemas dentro de los manglares, y con su desaparición se podría reducir la cantidad de camarones y peces, evitar el paso de los monos y los pájaros no contarán con ramas para posarse.

During the construction of the bypass in the River of Nosara the mangrove trees on the river´s border were cut. This type of tree plays a very importante role in the conservation of the ecosystems in the mangroves, their disappearance could reduce the amount of shrimp and fish, prevent the monkey´s crossing and the birds will not have branches to rest on.

DIQUE en RÍO RIVER BYPASS

Contaminación generada por:-Hidrocarburos debido a la maquinaria utilizada.-Residuos cascajo (el material de relleno), este se puede acumular sobre las raíces del manglar que restantes, y los puede secar. La sedimentación y pedazos de cascajo se pueden acumular sobre la desembocadura del río, lo cual puede modificar la estructura física de la playa e incluso afectar el desove de las tortugas.

Pollution due to:-Hydrocarbons due to the machinery used.-Gravel residue (the material used to fill the bypass). This gravel can settle in the remaining mangrove´s roots, and can dry them up. This sedimentation and bits of gravel can accumulate in the river mouth, which can modify the structure of the beach and even affect turtle nesting.

En Costa Rica se reconocen:- 85 especies de aves, 15 de mamíferos, 81 de anfibios y 28 de reptiles con poblaciones reducidas o amenazadas.- 17 especies de aves, 13 de mamíferos, 2 de anfibios y 8 de reptiles con poblaciones en peligro de extinción.- El águila harpía llegó a su extinción en el país; mientras que otras especies como la lapa roja, la lapa verde, el piche careto y el oso hormiguero gigante, están fuertemente amenazadas de extinción.

LET´S PROTECT WILDLIFEPROTEJAMOS LA VIDA SILVESTRE

Carrera // RaceSAVE THE SHOCKS

El pasado domingo 26 de julio se llevó a cabo la carrera “Stop the Shocks”. Todos los fondos recaudados en esta van dirigidos a los centros de rescate de vida silvestre en la zona. La carrera fue organizada por la escuela Academy del Sol. En esta compitieron y fueron voluntarios miembros de nuestro staff, gracias por ayudar a los monitos!

“Stop the Shocks” was the name of the race that took place last sunday 26th of july. All of the money raised in it was donated to both wildlife refuges in the area of Nosara. The race was organized by Academy del Sol. In this race staff members ran and volunteered, thank you for helping the monkeys!

Seguimos con el apoyo de nuestros voluntarios a Costas Verdes y sus esfuerzos de reforestación. Ya se han sembrado 2300 árboles en la Playa Guiones, pero aún quedan 1200 árboles más por sembrar, así que a seguir sembrando!

Our staff members keep helping Costas Verdes in their planting efforts. So far 2300 trees have been planted in Guiones Beach, but 1200 trees still remain to be planted, so let´s keep lending them a hand!

Vero, Alonso y Karla disfrutaron de un lindísimo paseo en kayak en la boca del río. Además de naturaleza y vida salvaje, nos encontramos mucha basura en el río, la cual recogimos en nuestros kayaks, Alan (el guía) nos dijo que es un problema constante y que él siempre tiene que recoger basura en sus paseos. Gracias a Experience Nosara por esa mañana tan cargada de energía. A mejorar nuestros malos hábitos de contaminación.

Vero, Alonso and Karla enjoyed an amazing kayak ride in the river mouth. Besides nature and wildlife, there was a lot of trash in the river. We picked up what we could, Alan (our guide) told us that this is a common problem and that he always picks up trash in his rides. Many thanks to Experience Nosara for a beautiful morning filled with energy. Let´s change our bad habits and stop polluting.

TARDES DE VOLLEYBALLVOLLEYBALL AFTERNOONS

Esteban comenzó a organizar las tardes de Volleyball, generalmente se dan los miércoles a las 4 de la tarde, pero es una actividad que se puede dar cuando cualquiera quiera jugar. Gracias Esteban por la iniciativa y crear un momento de tanta diversión y disfrute.

Esteban started organizing Volleyball afternoons, generally they take place on wednesdays at 4 pm, but anyone can enjoy this activity when they feel like it. Thank you Esteban for the iniciative and creating this space for fun and enjoyment.
