Bollywood or the Hindi Film Industry needs no introduction. Indians look up to their star as

their role models in various aspects of their lives including of course fashion. Thousands of

men, women, girls and boys try to emulate their favorite star by wearing similar clothes or

carrying similar hair styles etc.

The Indian Saree would perhaps have gone out of fashion with the increase of western

influences and trends had it not been for the bollywood saree. The film industry brought

awareness amongst the modern Indian women about how creative they can be with the way

they drape their saree. The bollywood saree has ensured that this traditional clothing remains

one of the sexiest and coolest attire ever.

In fact it is because of the influence of the bollywood saree that today you see even western

celebrities like Angelina Jolie wearing this Indian dress although definitely not in the

traditional way.

It is really difficult to believe when you see the bollywood saree that there

was a time when this was considered the most conservative wear. This is

because the way the sarees are draped in Hindi films are no where even

close to the traditional way of wearing that has so many folds at the right

places.

When a woman wears a bollywood saree today, she is doing so to look

trendy and some style of drapes even appears as a tease. This is because

thin, soft and transparent material allow for the body silhouette and the

blouse to be seen clearly. The popular materials for sarees today are

georgette, net, chiffon and crepe. The cotton sarees are reserved for roles

that portray a formal or conservative character. Thus the same trend is

followed in the real world too with the cotton sarees being restricted to office wear or to

elderly ladies.

A lot of times when a film becomes a hit then everything in it also becomes equally popular.

Sometimes a particular print or color of a saree becomes the signature of the film and replicas

of the same start getting sold by the same name. For example, the movie “Chandni” made

even white sarees popular. White sarees are normally associated with mourning but such is

the power of bollywood that it can set some revolutionary trends.

There are shops that specialize in selling bollywood saree and have a long list of loyal

customers for the same too. Every time there is a new hit and a new design been shown,

women will flock to these shops to wear similar sarees and try to look as glamorous as their

favorite actresses.
