MACANUDO Series (3 titles) by Liniers (Enchanted Lion, USA. 96-104pp/title)

You are embarking on one of the coolest journeys of your life - your journey

into the world of Liniers’ Macanudo. Liniers has been building those comic

strips, so there are many paths to go down and many places to go. Here you

will find a vast world of logic and illogic; a world where you’ll be ambushed,

caught off guard, poked, and taken by surprise. You’ll be touched by

melancholy and by an ineffable sweetness, as we always are when we come

face-to-face with what we know deep down to be pure and true. And then

there’s this: it just feels good to spend time in this wonderfully rendered and

lovely world.

5 CHERRIES by Vittoria Facchini (Enchanted Lion, USA. 56pp)

Two siblings travel into the depths of their own imaginations through a simple

game of make-believe with a handful of cherries. A mother gives her two

children five cherries each. One is excited; the other disappointed. "What can I

do with five cherries?" they ask. Some colored ribbons and two pairs of shoes

are all we have to distinguish the children. When these are discarded in the

spirit of play and exploration, we are made to confront the ways our own

expectations of gender shape our reading of the world at large.
