Bolton Abbey

In 1154 a priory was built at Bolton near Skipton on the banks of the River Wharfe as the land near to

Bolton on Wharfedale. After the castle at Skipton, the owner built the abbey

and brought the font and altar to the church and priory. In 1537, Henry Viii decided to destroy the

abbey.

Bolton Abbey Churchin 1970 destruction fell again to the church but today there

is a large congregation who goes to church on a Sunday. The church is used for people to look at and also have tours

around the buildings.

The Tour of the Church is about a hour long or you can choose a tour of the abbey.
