Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Life itself is a precious gift from God. With that gift comes the obligation to use what we have been given for the betterment of ourselves and others. To waste the talents that are uniquely ours is a loss that can never be recovered. We can praise the Lord with who we
are and all that we are.
STB Finance Council ~ The Finance Council will meet on Wednesday, June 8 @ 7:15 PM in the Parish Office.
No June Pastoral Council Meeting ~ The Pastoral Council will NOT meet on Tuesday, June 7 @ 6:30 PM nor will the Council meet in July. Meetings will resume in August. Enjoy the summer off!
High School Graduates Gift ~ Congratulations to all Saint Boniface High School graduates. May God bless you with much happiness and success! I am happy to present to ALL our high school graduates a complimentary (free) copy of Catholicism for Dummies. You can get your copy from myself before or after Mass over the next several weeks!
School Registration ~ Saint Boniface Parish School and Pre– School and Father McGivney Catholic High School continue to accept students for the 2016-17 school year. Please contact Sister Anna Flanigan, OSF at the Saint Boniface School Office @ 618.656.6917 and Mr. Mike Scholz at the FMCHS Office @ 618.855.9010.
STB2019 Planning Commission ~ The next meeting for the planning commission is Monday, June 6 @ 6:30 PM in the Bona Lounge of the Parish Office Building.
Summertime Mass Attire ~ Summer might be a good occasion for casual attire, but it would be a good rule of thumb to keep in mind that beach attire is not church attire. Common sense rules of modesty apply to our attire at Mass.
Next Weekend June 11/12

What are you Doing This Summer?
Here are some upcoming diocesan events for families/teens.
Diocesan Family Fun Camp June 30-July 2
Villa Maria Retreat Center, Lake Springfield
The Diocesan Family Fun Camp is a faith-filled affordable gathering for families of all ages and sizes. Held at the Villa Maria Catholic Life Retreat Center, this is the second year that we have gathered families so that they can truly relax, spend time in prayer – as individuals, married couples and as a whole family – and pause from the distractions of the modern world while enjoying true recreation. Different tracks will keep parents, teens and children engaged in different ways throughout the days. Activities currently planned are: nightly bonfires, a party barge boat excursion, hikes, games, movies and more. You will leave inspired, renewed and motivated to do wonderful things for God - precisely as a family! We are excited to have you join us. Contact www.dio.org/familylife/camp or call 217-321-1139. Scholarships are available to help with costs.
Teens Encounter Christ (TEC)
TEC is having their next weekend from June 25 to June 27, 2016. TEC is essentially Koinonia for teens (ages 16-21). Just like at Koinonia, we discover the Paschal Mystery by dying, rising and going forth with Jesus. Who are the young people you know who would benefit from the same experience? The application can be found online at http://www.tecofspringfield.com/ and then e-mailed to [email protected]. The cost of the weekend is $100 and will be held at the Latter Rain Retreat Center in Litchfield, IL. You may also contact Robin B-R at the parish office for more information.
Villa Maria Catholic Life Conference and Retreat Center Springfield, IL
‘Called and Sent’ is a program that offers high school students the opportunity to be formed as the next generation of disciples in the Church. The program will provide an environment in which young people will be able to encounter Christ in a personal and powerful way. They will come to understand who Christ is, and in coming to know Him, they will come to better understand who they are in relationship to Him. This then leads to a greater awareness of how they are called to live their faith intentionally as disciples. Go to http://dio.org/vocations/called-and-sent.html to view their brochure and to register.
Two Empty Chairs
When the priests and deacons of our diocese gather at the Cathedral for special celebrations with our bishop, they all join the bishop in the sanctuary and sit in specific areas. Our priests all sit on the left side of the sanctuary, our deacons sit immediately to the right of the altar towards the back of the sanctuary and our bishop sits in his bishop’s chair on the right side of the sanctuary.
Last Saturday (May 28th) after we had processed to the sanctuary for the ordination of Father Paul Bonk and Father Brendan Maher, those two men were sitting with the deacons and there were two empty chairs reserved for them among our priests.
At the end of the readings for the Ordination Mass and just before the homily, those two men were called forth and presented to our bishop as being ready for ordination to the priesthood. For the entire celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Orders they would stand or kneel or lie face down in front of the bishop’s chair. When all of the elements of the sacrament of Holy Orders were completed and they were elevated to the priesthood, they moved across the sanctuary in their new priestly vestments to the two chairs reserved for them among our priests.
Now there were two empty chairs at the front of the section where the deacons sit. For me, those two empty chairs represented all the study and commitment that Father Paul and Father Braden had invested in order to be ready to be called to the priesthood. They were first ordained deacons and like deacons will continue giving their lives in service to the Church and they will always be deacons. Now they have received the Sacrament of Holy Orders a second time and will serve our Church and our Diocese as priests.
A year from now there could be as many as five empty chairs
reserved among our priests and waiting to receive new priests
of our diocese. Keep all those seminarians in your prayers.
Keep Father Paul and Father Braden in your prayers as they
start their new assignments on July 1 and give their lives in
service to our Church. ~ Deacon Dan
St. Boniface Aftercare (Grief Support)
St. Boniface Aftercare invites you to join us Tuesday, June 7,
for a coffee hour. Connect with others who have suffered the
loss of loved ones in the past year(s). This group offers an
opportunity to explore and share the journey of loss that
many are traveling. You are not alone. In meeting with
others who have experienced recent loss we can continue to
heal and mend with the support of our Lord, our faith and
each other. The coffee hour begins at 8:45 a.m. after the
Tuesday morning Mass in the lower level of St. Boniface
Church.

Stewardship
The late Msgr. Thomas McGread, who was pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Wichita, Kansas for more than 30 years, and is called by some the “Father of Stewardship,” said as he looked back on his experiences supporting and forming stewardship in his people, “The real success of stewardship in our parish is found in the hearts of the people. Without a conversion of heart, no one is able to give of themselves as Christ has asked us to do.”
In today’s Second Reading from St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians, Paul speaks of his conversion, a change of heart that provided him with the inspiration and the strength to become the apostle and evangelist he was. We are called to conversion by stewardship but it does not have to be as dramatic as Paul’s experience.
Nevertheless, conversion influences us to be good stewards, and living stewardship translates into a lifestyle of service. Msgr. McGread recognized that serving rather than being served could be challenging for people. He said, “Stewardship is a spiritual way of life and that is never easy, but anyone I have ever known who became committed to being a steward never went back. Once they adopted that way of living, they were in it for the duration, for life.”
We must understand that to be a disciple of Christ, to actually be one of His followers, requires not just conversion, but action, doing something to serve others. There are many opportunities for service right here in our parish and in our communities.

St. Boniface appreciates your gifts to the church. We would like to suggest some ways to make your gift giving easier:
• Easy and convenient! EFT is an automatic withdrawal from your checking account on a monthly basis. There are no service fee charges! All we need is a copy of your cancelled check and your authorization form for an amount to be given automatically. Once a month giving is as easy as paying your light bill!
• Traditional weekly contribution envelopes provided by the church. This allows us to give you credit for the gifts you give to the church. We have no way to credit anonymous gifts of cash.
• Are you visiting or have not yet registered? We will send you a thank you letter for your contribution (if you give by check) that can be used for tax purposes. Cash donations are more difficult unless a name and address are included with the gift.
All gifts to St. Boniface are tax deductible!
Stewardship Prayer
Oh, God hear our prayer as we seek to be good stewards of the many gifts You have bestowed on us. Give us wisdom to discern Your will for us, strength to meet the challenge, and the grace to be steadfast in our commitment to You. Let us use our time, talent and treasure for Your greater honor and glory. In Your name, we pray. Amen.
CRS Rice Bowl
We received a certificate of appreciation from Catholic Relief Services for your donations of $1,927.17. “Your prayers, fasting and almsgiving changed lives this Lent. Thank You!”
