TITLE : THE WITCHES

I. NARRATE THE STORY

There is this little boy who lived in England, once in a while his family visits

his favorite grandmother in Norway. On his 7th birthday, they decided to

celebrate it with his grandmother but they encounter an accident and both of his

parents died. He was left with his grandmother.

They are very close and most especially the boy always wanted to hear

the stories of his grandmamma, his endearment to her, about the witches that is

living all over the world. His grandmamma told him that witches were very

different from humans, they are all bald, they have no fingers in their feet but a

straight feet, and has no fingers but with claws, and they have powers. And the

last thing, they could smell children even from far away, specially clean children.

The five children that his grandmamma knew when she was a little were

the ones that caught his attention, the first girl was lost and was found in the

picture, the next girl become a chicken, the boy was turned into a stone and the

last boy has become a porpoise. The boy was amazed by it but he believed his

grandmamma. And everyday he wanted to hear new stories from her.

Everyday new stories is heard from his grandmamma. Until he learned

from her about the grand high witch. He would never forgot the description of his



grandmamma about the grand high witch who is the leader among the witches of

the world.

Until one day, a man came, and talked to his grandmamma. His

grandmamma told him that they have to go back to England, because that is his

parents request. He was born in England and they had a house there, and he

must study in school in England, and if not, he would be separated to his

grandmamma, which the boy don’t want to happen.

His grandmother become sick and was in bed for a couple of weeks. He

was glad that penicillin was available that time that his grandmother had taken

and recovers very soon. After she had recover from her sickness, she decided to

spend the summer with his grandson to Norway. But because his grandmother

had come from sickness they considered the doctor’s suggestion to spend the

holidays in Bournemouth, in a hotel lakeside.

He had two pet mice, William and Mary. He brought them in the hotel.

One day he was looking for a room where he could play with his mouse when he

saw one room that says Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children

MEETING. And because he knew that this group is pro-children and that the

meeting hadn’t been started yet he decided to play at the backroom.



He didn’t notice the time, until the meeting had began. There are ladies in

the room now and they locked the door. The little woman who stand in the

platform maybe the speaker. But he was surprised to hear them about taking off

their hats, gloves, shoes, and mask. They are WITCHES. He cannot believe

that he actually see many witches as what his grandmamma described to him.

She was right, all the witches in the room were bald, and they have no fingernails

in their toes, and as they remove the gloves below them are claws.

He prayed as he watch the witches came to their meeting. One of the

witch in the crowd had talking nonsense to the grand high witch and was

punished. In one point of the claw of the grand high witch the witch in her chair is

gone. The grand high witch introduce them a new formula, the formula that

would turn children into mice, it is formula 86 delayed action mouse-maker. And

after that the grand high witch told them to put on their wigs, gloves and shoes

and hat. Bruno Jenkins entered. Bruno demanded for his chocolate bars, as the

ladies promised him. But they hold him and gave him few drops of formula 86.

and he became a mouse.

He was very shock of what he had witness. And the grand high witch told

them that the meeting is over and everyone of them would get the new potion.

But one of the witch told her that they smell a child, but not so strong. Until he

was found at the backroom, he cant do anything because the witches were too



many and he too become a mouse. He came running across to escape from the

witches. He found Bruno and told him about what he is now.

They had rushed towards his grandmama’s room and his grandmother

was very surprised what have become of them. She was so sad about it. And

he told her about what he saw in the meeting and decided to get the formula from

the room of the grand high witch, which is below in their room. He told his

grandmother that he wanted the witches to taste their own potion, he would put it

on their food.

His grandmamma helped him and put him in a sock and he got the

formula to the grand high witch room. They were almost caught by the grand

high witch when she heard that his grandmother was calling to him. But she

managed to tell a lie that she was talking to his grandson in the bath tub.

As he got out of the room, his grandmother picked him up, and they

immediately went to the restaurant of the hotel. His grandmother asked about

the food that they would serve and then he sneaked into the kitchen and manage

to put all the potion in the soup that would be serve to the witches. He was

almost got caught and his tail got hit by a knife. It was bleeding when he reached

his grandmother, and she was so sad about it.



At that moment, Bruno’s father came to his grandmother and she told him

that Bruno had gone to be a mouse for real. Both parents of Bruno is shrieked

when they heard the mouse speak. It is their son indeed. He wanted to speak to

the grand high witch and he wanted to put her in jail, but as he was heading

towards the grand high witch, the other witches is shouting with shrieked voice

because some of them are turning into a mouse.

All the room of the restaurant were filled with ladies running and shouting,

as he and his grandmother sat there watching, and the grand high witch too

become a mouse herself.

They were glad that all of the witches in that room had turned into mouse.

And they decided to go back to their house. From that day on he lived with his

grandmother as a mouse, he told her that it wasn’t that bad at all and he

convince her that he was happy that he will be with his grandmother all the time.

His grandmother told him one day that she got the address of the grand

high witch which is in Norway. They lived in a castle with witches in it, and they

decided to be a witchopile, killer of witch. And they build a plan how to erase all

the witches in the world.



I. CHARACTERS

The main character which is the grandson can be described in one word,

Marvelous. All in all this grandson is a obedient and smart boy, and he loved his

grandmother very much. He believed in everything his grandmother says and is

very close to her even from the start that he still has his parents with him. He is

an amazing child with a brave heart and a brilliant brain.

I was drawn to his grandmother. She was a great story teller, and that she

manage to get her grandson’s attention by her stories, and at the same time

giving him lessons which he cannot forget.



II. DEFINING MOMENTS

The first part of the book that I became interested with is the stories of the

children that the witches had punished, the next is the part where he witness the

meeting of the witches, then when he was so brave that he manage to get the

formula from the grand high witch room, and the scene where all the witches

were screaming and running and becoming a mouse.

As I read these part I imagine about it at the same time, and it give me a

tingling feeling about these parts. It become recognizable to me and I love the

story very much. I remember that this book had once been a movie, and it was a

decade ago when I watched it. But as I was reading the book, the movie came to

my view and I still remember that the manager in that movie is Mr. Bean himself.



II. INSIGHTS

This book made me realize that being an obedient child like that of the

main character would not bring you to trouble, and that I learned that not all we

see is what we get. Just like what happened to Bruno, he saw beautiful women

and promised him 6 bars of chocolate, but it turned out that these ladies were

witches and that there are no such thing as 6 bars of chocolate but instead they

turned him into a mouse.

I also learned that love for family members should always be the first

reason why we wanted to be with them. Just like what happened to the main

character, he wanted to be with his grandmother not because he is an orphan but

he loved his grandmother and he wants her to take care of him. And with this

love, his grandmother choose to stay in England because of her child’s wish that

their son should live in England because he is an English.
