4-H Poultry Chain
Attention all poultry chain participants!! All
participants must attend a biosecurity workshop.
Our final workshop will be held April 3,
6:00 p.m. at the NW AR District Fairgrounds.
The target delivery date is April 11. 4-H’ers
will be responsible for feeding and caring for
the birds. You will enter your best 3 in the
County Fair for exhibition, and an opportunity
to be in the premium sale. Contact the Extension
Office at 741-6168 if you have questions.
County Spring Livestock Show
The Boone County Spring Livestock Show
will be held Friday, April 21 at the NW AR
District Fairgrounds. Weigh-in will begin at
1:00 p.m. Goat and lamb show will begin at
3:00 p.m., and cattle show will begin at
4:00 p.m. There is no entry fee, and hamburgers
will be served.
This will be the date for weigh-in for Boone
County Born and Bred Steers to be eligible for
added premium for the fair in September. Steers
do not have to be shown on April 21st, but they
must be weighed in. We hope to see you on
Friday, April 21st!
Arkansas State Fair Spring Livestock Show
The Arkansas Spring Livestock Show will
be held May 4-6 at the Arkansas State
Fairgrounds in Little Rock. The deadline to
enter is April 15. Here’s a link to where you

4-H Poster Art Contest
The 2017 4-H Poster Art Contest is open to
all 4-H members ages 9-19. Posters should be
14" x 22" in dimension and may be horizontal or
vertical. Posters may be any medium art -
watercolor, ink, crayon, acrylic, charcoal, or
collage. They cannot contain any copyrighted
material such as cartoon characters and cannot
have any three dimensional items on them. One
poster entry per 4-H member will be accepted.
The 4-H members name, age, county, full
address and brief interpretation of art work must
be affixed to the back of the poster in the upper
left hand corner. (You may use a 3" x 5" index
card.) Posters are due in the County Extension
Office on May 1. The themes for 2017 are as
follows:
Masquerade, Unmask your Potential
Open theme (create a theme and a poster to go
with it)
Show Camp
Show Camp will be held June 26-28 at the
University of Arkansas and Washington County
Fairgrounds. Swine, Sheep, and Goats will be
June 26-27. The cost is $175.00. Cattle will be
June 26-28, and the cost is $275.00. You must
bring your own animal. Registration deadline is
May 26. The camp is open to youth ages 9-19.
There will be a fitting and showmanship contest
on the final day of camp. Let us know if you are
interested in attending.
Indian Rock House Hike
The Boone County 4-H Outdoor
Adventure Club will be hosting a
hiking trip to the Indian Rock House,
and you are invited!! The group will
leave from the Extension Office on
April 1, 9:00 a.m. Please bring a snack, sack
lunch, and drink. If you are planning to
participate in the hike you MUST have attended
the March Outdoor Adventure club meeting on
Thursday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m. 4-H
members/groups will need an adult chaperone.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors!
4-H Volunteer/Parent Meeting
4-H Volunteers and parents, please mark
your calendar!! Our 4-H Volunteer/Parents
meeting will be held August 1. The meeting will
begin at 6:30 p.m., and a light meal will be
served. Please make sure your club is
represented. Contact the Extension office if you
plan to attend to help with meal preparations.
MASH Program
The Medical Application of
Science for Health (MASH) program
will be accepting applications soon.
The program is for students entering their junior
or senior year in the fall 2017 who are interested
in medical sciences. The program will be June
12-23 at North Arkansas Regional Medical
Center. Deadline for application is April 1, 2017.
There is no charge for the program. Applications
can be found on the North Arkansas Regional
Medical Center website.
Dairy Recipe Contest
If you love to cook or are trying to learn
how, this is the perfect opportunity to utilize your
skills. Find, improve, or make up your own
recipe with many different dairy products and
cook it for the judges. The contest will be
Tuesday, April 18, 5:30 p.m. at the Harrison High
School FACS department. Participants should
arrive and begin cooking as close to 5:30 p.m. as
possible. Participants should bring all necessary
supplies to prepare and display their dish on
serving plates for the judges.
Anyone in the 4th
through 12th
grades may
enter for competition. Cloverbuds may enter at
the county level and will receive participation
awards. The contest is divided into two divisions:
Party Ideas (may include several simples recipes)
and Main Dish. Dishes will be judged on use of
dairy products, originality, clarity, and accuracy
of the recipe. Each contestant should bring two
typed copies of their recipe along with
registration form.
Participants aged 9–19 must be willing to go to state competition on May 31st
in Little Rock if selected
to do so. Prizes including some cash prizes will be available at the county level provided by Farm Bureau.

Boone County 4-H Photography Contest
Get out your cameras!! The Boone County 4-H Photography Contest is open to all 4-H’ers –
Cloverbud, Junior and Senior members. The theme for the contest is “The Great Outdoors,” and entries are
due in the Extension office on May 15. You may enter up to 3 photos. Photographs should be 5X7, and may
be color or black and white. Please don’t frame or mat the photos. Prizes will be awarded. Senior 4-H’ers
– this is the qualifying contest to represent Boone County in the state O-Rama Photography Contest.
