Principal’s Report
Hats
All students are required to be wearing hats during Term 4 if
they are outside. So, whether you are in Foundation or Year 12,
we ask that you cover up and protect yourselves from sun
damage. Sunscreen is available. If hats are lost or misplaced,
please arrange to get a new one but our policy clearly states that
hats must be worn outside. There are shaded areas for use if no
hat is being worn – outside the canteen, the verandah under the
Tech building, the sand pit for the smaller students.
Boort Show
It was pleasing to note all the student work that was displayed for
the Boort Show last weekend. Well done to all the students who
chose to enter a section and to all the teachers who supported the
Show by encouraging our students to participate. I must also
commend our student and staff volunteers who helped in many
ways on the day.
Transition
We will welcome our 2019 Foundation (Prep) students into the
school next Wednesday for their transition visit. They will be
here in the morning for some introductory activities then walk
back to Kinder at 11.10am. Parents and families will be given a
tour of the school at 9.00am and there will be a short information
session for them around 9.15am. The students will return again
in a few weeks for a longer period of time to get used to the
school setting and the classroom atmosphere.
Walk to School Health Morning Tea
All of our F-6 students, their families and all staff were invited to
attend the morning tea held yesterday to celebrate Walk to
School Month. Many thanks to our Parents’ Club who organised
the snacks on the day and to the Loddon Shire for sponsoring this event.

Last week, in preparation for the Boort Show, Gateways students set up the stadium and assisted with the
organisation of the tables, chairs, tents and pavilions at Boort Park – all with smiles on their faces! It was
great to see the different generations working together to put on this town event.
REMINDER: CAN PARENTS WHO ARE DROPPING THEIR CHILDREN AT SCHOOL IN THE MORNINGS PLEASE NOT USE THE BUS ZONE FROM 8.20AM TO 8.55AM. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS IN RECENT WEEKS WITH CARS PULLING IN OR OUT WHEN BUSES ARE ENTERING, STATIONARY AND LEAVING THE ZONE. WE ALSO ASK THAT PARENTS NOT DROP OFF STUDENTS AT THE MEN’S SHED AS THE STUDENTS OFTEN TEND TO WALK STRAIGHT ACROSS THE ROAD BETWEEN THE BUSES THAT ARE ENTERING, STATIONARY OR LEAVING THE ZONE. Interschool Debating
On Thursday, 12th September, Boort District School hosted
the Northern Rivers Debating competition. We had visiting
debaters from Echuca College and Kyabram P-12 College
attend, and there was fierce competition on the day. Because
only two other schools were able to attend, Boort students
stepped up and formed emergency teams on the day, meaning
a total of 16 students were able to have a go at competition
debating. We were fortunate to walk away with the
Intermediate Shield for the day, and put up an excellent
showing in both the Senior and Junior sections, being runners
up in each.
At assembly, students were presented with a certificate to
acknowledge their efforts in this very valuable extra-
curricular activity.
Congratulations to Bella Quinn
Bella has just finished winter competition and competed at Ballarat Short Course Swimming
Championships. She swam in 11 years and over with three nine year olds in Freestyle, coming 49th out of
fifty-one swimmers and swam a personal best.
Summer competition started on Saturday at Echuca and Bella come home with two firsts and two seconds.
Bella has won her way into Victorian Country championships at Warrnambool and to the Victorian Sprint
Championships in Melbourne next year.
Year 7-9 Mathematics Homework
The Mathematics department kindly ask if parents/carers could please check the progress of your child’s
homework for Mathematics.
Ask your child to show/tell you
How they login to Squizya
What type of questions they find easy, and which ones they find challenging.
Where do they do their workings? Encourage them to use a set binder book just for their maths
homework. Even though they are entering answers online, they still need paper to do their
workings!
What do they do to get help with questions they find too difficult. Encourage them to use the
internet to help research key words and rules they may need and to talk to their teacher.
Encourage your child to do their homework where you can see their progress and talk about the questions on
the task. We encourage all students completing Maths Mates Homework program not use a calculator, to
keep their number skills sharp. Some questions on the Year 9 sheets having very large number work and
these can be completed with a calculator.
Year 7 & 8 student’s Maths Mate Squizya homework will be due Friday of each week for the first eight
weeks.
Year 9 (Ms Dussin’s class) student’s Maths Mate Squizya homework will be due every Thursday for the first
eight weeks.
What Squizya offers:
Parents of Year 7 to 9 students who are completing their homework on Squizya can login with their
child’s details and see how they are doing week by week on each of the different questions.
Students can also look back over their previous sheets and look at the workings shown to help them
improve their results.
