Working as part of a Design and Build Team for Eric Wright Construction, R G Parkins & Partners Ltd were asked to provide Consultancy Services for the design of the infrastructure, drainage, superstructure, foundations, and floor slab for the relocation of North West Food Retailer, E H Booth & Co Ltd from their previous location in the centre of Preston to a new site on the outskirts of the city.

The development consists of 12,500sqm of dry goods warehousing which incorporates a further 4000sqm of mezzanine storage and an adjacent fresh foods building incorporating a freezer complex.

The Greenfield site at Longridge near Preston was developed to provide Booths Supermarkets with a state of the art back up and Distribution Centre. New head quarter offices have followed on an adjacent site.

Environmental issues on site were many and various. Complex water attenuation problems were sympathetically resolved by our Hydrology Division.

Both the main Warehouse and the Fresh Foods building were economically designed using Westok Cellular Beams

to provide a lightweight steel structure with large open spans.

Four large service yards and a ring road to the site were all designed by R G Parkins & Partners Ltd. Thousands of deliveries a year from throughout Europe are being accommodated for ongoing distribution to Booth’s Supermarkets across the North of England.
