˃ Production: After a challenging year, November saw the site’s production get back

on track.˃ Exceeded budgeted volumes during the course of the month.

˃ We will be working through the Christmas-New Year period in order to ‘catch up’ on

lost time during 2019.˃ The kiln will shut down from 13 January for around 20 days for its annual maintenance program.

˃ Cement milling will continue as normal throughout the period.

˃ Safety: Recent incident involving a contracted coal truck tipping onto its side while

trying to unload on an uneven surface.˃ Occurred in early hours of morning when surface was not readily visible.

˃ Driver was uninjured in incident.

˃ Personnel: We welcome Rajat Mittal who will work in process control.

Page 6: BORAL BERRIMA CEMENT · Operations, People, Safety ˃ Production: After a challenging year, November saw the site’s production get back on track. ˃ Exceeded budgeted volumes during

Dust mitigation and management progress˃ The ‘real time’ monitor has been ordered, with the aim to install it by the end of

the year. This will include direct telemetry to the control room.

˃ The Air Quality TARP has been prepared.

˃ The EPA issued Boral with a ‘Show Cause’ regarding the dust incident of late

June. Boral has provided a response and is awaiting the outcome from the EPA.

Operations: New water cart˃ Our new 30000L water cart is almost ready for deployment.

˃ Replaces former 7000L cart at a cost of around $250 000.

˃ Has cannon fitted for targeted spraying.

˃ New filling station built – former cart took 30-40 minutes to fill, new cart will take 5.

˃ Training for staff will begin next week and the cart is expected to be put to work from

Thursday/Friday.

˃ Until then, we’ll continue to use two contracted carts to manage site dusts.

Environmental overview˃ Water quality monitoring.

˃ Due to the ongoing impact of the drought, no discharges have been recorded for the most recent

period.

˃ Three recent submissions to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and

Environment (DPIE).˃ Solid Waste Derived Fuels (SWDF) first year assessment report.

˃ SWDF 12 monthly audit: nil non-compliances, two recommendations (update Operational

Environment Management Plan and model ground emissions).

˃ SWDF Quarterly Pollutant Tracking report.

Planning˃ MOD 11 – Use of HiCal 50.

˃ MOD 11 was approved on 25 October 2019.

˃ Approval now permits blending of HiCal 50 (carbon

anode) at 4% with coal and use during start-up

conditions.

˃ Licence variation submitted to the EPA.

˃ Anticipating commencing use in early 2020 once the

EPA variation is approved.

˃ MOD 12 - Isotainers˃ MOD 12 seeks to introduce handling of isotainers at the

site via rail rather then just on road.

˃ This could, over time, reduce our reliance on road

based deliveries from site.

˃ Application was submitted to DPIE for assessment in

July which continues.

˃ The EPA and Council have provided favourable

responses to the project.

˃ Noise impacts are considered to be minimal and can

be managed on the site.

Page 17: BORAL BERRIMA CEMENT · Operations, People, Safety ˃ Production: After a challenging year, November saw the site’s production get back on track. ˃ Exceeded budgeted volumes during

Planning˃ MOD 13 - SWDF hours of delivery.

˃ Ultimately, we want to reduce the effects of traffic movements in the site area.

˃ We are aiming to achieve this by dispersing the amount of vehicle movements we add to local

roads.

˃ This will result in more consistent delivery of SWDF materials to the site, and won’t increase the

overall amount of vehicle movements.

˃ This will allow more efficient delivery of SWDF material to the site and use in the kiln.

˃ Internal discussion held following meeting in North Sydney.

˃ Supportive of concept however more information required.

˃ Will require Cement line management endorsement, multi-year project if supported, resource

dependant.

Community˃ Previously reported support for the Southern Highlands Kennel and Obedience

Club (20 Oct) and annual Harper’s Mansion Garden and Plant Fair (27 Oct).˃ Both events conducted successfully on respective dates.

˃ A note that community contribution may be more limited during 2020 due to

resource availability.˃ Restructuring of Berrima’s community support program is planned to be undertaken to suit

available resources and site-determined local priorities.
